To you, our parents, we offer this record of our hopes, dreams, and acc- omplishments. We hope you will keep this record on the marquee of your minds, for all of it, each tiny part, each per- fect whole, is yours. You, our directors and pro- ducers, deserve top billings .... When we didn't quite know our lines, or were missing some of our props, you provided them. You wrote the script, we merely acted our parts and we hope it pleases you. We were in the center of the stage, then as now, and you were in the wings cheering us on, making us stars, and for this moment we want you to take the spotlight and accept our undying thanks and gratitude. SHEPPARD Class Advisor 13 .LL w Mi: - Last Will and Testament We, the Senior Class of 1958, realizing that our days as students of Northwood High School have come to an end, do proclaim this to be our last will and testament. With the best intentions, we leave behind our treasured traits to the following: To the faculty we bequeath our appreciation for the help and co-operation they have shown us during the past four years. The junior class will receive our title Seniors and our individuality . To the sophomores we leave our advantages as a small class. The freshmen receive our years of experience and our ability to get things accomplished. From Paul to Ronnie Groth goes Paul's love for science and math. Paul also leaves his coveted desk by the north wall to Darlene Grande along with these words: Use it well and be good while I'm gone. Donn Peterson will receive Wayne Hanson's skill of sleeping in school . Darrell has decided to leave to Curtis Ellingson his ability to get along with girls. Marilyn Ellingson will be the recipient of Arlene's gift of gab. Arlene adds that she hopes Mar- ilyn will use it wisely. Gaylor's place on the honor roll has been bestowed upon Vernon Hegre with the hopes that he can use it. Phyllis has consented to grant her ableness of chewing gum to Sigurd Hanson. Don't annoy the teachers too much, Sigurd. Pat willingly consented to leave her laryngitis for Mae Onsager. Raymond wishes to leave his behavior in class to Myrna Pederson. Noel requested that his stiff, thick hair be left to Mr. Kepler, while Roger bequeathed his side burns to Dennis Sanda. Jim Hegre is to be honored with Jerry's ambition. Annette wills her naturally dark hair to Virginia Larson. Wayne Halvorson leaves his ducktail style haircut to Jim Granberg. Karyn Anderson will receive Myrna's smile with the hopes that she can make use of it. Verna willingly submits her study habits to Janice Myron. Dorothy leaves her wavy hair to Barbara Maurseth, her forgetfullness to Mr. Idso, her part in the flute trio to some windy person, her love for math to Guentor Viktor, and her knack for ending sentences with prepositions to Mr. Mickels. We hereby affix our signature on this twenty-first day of February, in the year nineteen hundred and fifty-eight. Qsignedj SENIOR CLASS OF 1958 By Verna Johnson History In the year 1946, the month of September, seven timid first graders were met by Miss Clara Dock their first teacher. They were Paul Bry, Paul Erickson, Wayne Halverson, Verna Holter, Gerald Maurseth, Jeanette Olson, and Priscilla Sethre. By the middle of November they had two new class- mates, Kenneth Dammen and Myrna Johnson. The next year being much more brave we came back as second graders with Miss Tena Mehus as our teacher. This year Gerald Maurseth, Jeanette Olson and Kenneth Dammen did not return but Raymond Sherva joined us. As third graders we were again greeted by Miss Tena Mehus and our class had again added two more to its number. They were Gayler Korsmo and Nancy Larson. In 1949 we were in the fourth grade. We were taught by Miss Iverna Johnson. Dorothy Berge, Richard Johnson, Wally Ostlie, and Gayle Smestad joined us to make a large class of twelve. As fifth graders Gayle Smestad left our class and Jerome Marschke joined us. Eileen Larson was our instructor. In the sixth grade Ardelle Schwartz was our teacher. That year Dorothy Berge, Gayler Korsmo, and Wally Ostlie left us. As seventh graders we ascended the stairway to be met by T. L. Lindroos our new teacher. Mem- bers of our class did not change from the previous year. A eighth graders we had several teachers, Miss Thelma Bakke, Mr. Gilbert Idso, Mr. J. C. Sethre, and Mr. C. H. Schulstad. Ronald Warne joined us and left again i.n March. In the Fall of 1954, nineteen green freshmen walked into the assembly at Northwood High School They were Paul Bry, Paul Erickson, Richard Johnson, Raymond Sherva, Wayne I-Ialvorson, Jerome Marschke, Verna Holter, Priscilla Sethre. Myrna Johnson, Darrell Jodock, Arlynn Olson, Wayne Hanson, Patricia Schol, Arlene Olson, Pat Myron, Dorothy Berge, Gayler Korsmo, Roger Holte, and Annette Maurseth. Richard Johnson left us. Highlights of this year were our freshmen re- turn party. The first semester our advisor was Mr. Schulstad. The second semester Mr. 'Don Wenaas was our advisor. l The next September we returned as sophomores to find that Priscilla Sethre and Arlynn Olson had moved away. Pat Myron did not return, but Richard Kjensrud joined our class. This year Mr. Kepler was our advisor. As juniors we found that Paul Erickson had moved away. Noel Stendahl and Phyllis Gunderson joined our class and after the first few months Richard Kjensrud left. This year was a busy year for us with our class play Professor, How Could You in the fall and, in the spring we had our Banquet -and Prom with its theme Oreintal Gardens . This year we captured first place with our carnival skit Sad Sack and his Unoriginal Irnmature Hour . Our class advisors were Mr. Kepler and Mrs. Sussex. The day soon arrived when we entered the assembly as Mighty Seniors and realized with a shock that we had come to our last year at Northwood High School. In the middle of the year Verna Holterleft us and we remain a small but determined class of 16. Mr. Robert Sheppard our advisor kept us busy deciding on our class colors, our class motto, our class flower, our graduation speak- er, and our announcements. Before we knew it the class play was here, the banquet and prom, skip day, Baccalaureate, and finally Graduation. As we cloge the door of NHS behind us, we open a new door all hoping to attain the goals for what we aim. -By Myrna Johnson Prophecy Dear Myrna, It was so nice to find your letter when I came home from work the other day! I saw your TV show Here, There, and What to Wear last Wednesday and I nearly went into hysterics while watching your Fashions in Review part of the show. Do you mean to say that we actually wore clothes like that back in '58? Good grief, that Chemise Look was nearly.too much! Did you know that our class is going to have a reunion here in Northwood, Mlay 23? It's really going to fun to see everyone again. Phyllis has made a small fortune manufacturing Snap-O-Gum , the gum with the inbuilt snap. I hear that she's building an Old People's Home with part of her money. Arlene went to a beauty school after graduating from high school and she now has her own beauty shop. She calls herself The Squaw in the Tee-Pee and specializes in dying hair. She's become quite famous for an unusual shade of green, it's supposed to be the latest thing! Pat had to give up her teaching career because of her tonsillitis and strep throat, so she's settled down and is raising her own English Class. You most likely noticed the headlines in all the papers the other day about that new machine for putting people to sleep. It should be a great invention for people who suffer from insomnia. Wayne Hanson was the head of the committee in charge of testing it, and he was quoted as saying, Even with the machine I never would have been able to fall asleep during that thunderstorm, if it hadn't been for all the practice in sleeping I got during my high school days. Have you seen that new character in the Walt Disney cartoons ? It's a cute little hot dog that walks and talks. As soon as I saw it, I knew that Wayne Weiner Halvorson realized his ambition to become Walt Disney's right-hand man. Paul is the first nuclear physicist on the moon, but it seems that the rest of the physicists that were sent up there took a wrong turn somewhere along the wayg so until they find the moon, Paul is teaching literature to the little green men up there. Noel, after trying to decide whether to go into the Navy, to enter the field of journalism, or to work on the railroad, has decided to follow in his father's footsteps and has adopted as his slogan Serving udders is our business. Annette, of course, is the bookkeeper and assistant manager of the new Johnson Store in Northwood. Bookie , otherwise known as Ray Sherva, is in Larimore manufacturing Doz pills for stu- dents who have trouble sleeping in class. Gayler, after considering many things, has become world famous as a ballet dancer. I under- stand he worked up all of his interpretive ballet routines before his sheep in Australia. Roger is designing cars for General Motors. It seems that after taking one look at his cus- tomized Chevy with the Continental look, they hired him on the spot. Verna has really gone into social work in a big way. She's the head of a children's home in Grand Forks. In her spare time she's always out in the kitchen helping wash dishes. At the orders of Jerry Marschke, President of the United States lbetter known to us as Bugs, j, Secretary of Agriculture Darrell Jodock has at last solved the farm surplus problem. He was quoted as modestly saying, It was really nothing, I just had all the wheat made into bread and I ate it. Incidentally, Bugs's favorite saying during our senior year, Then watch out! is now a favorite saying all over the country. Well, this accounts for our whole class. I wonder how it differs from the prophecy that I wrote for the '58 TROJAN! I'll see you a month from today at our reunion. Dorothy 25,45 M?
