“
“ALL THE WORLDS A STAGE AND EVERYONE HAS A PART.” EVERYONE AT NORTHWOOD IS IMPORTANT. EVERYONE IS NEED¬ ED AND OUT OF THIS MUTUAL NEED GROWS MUTUAL RESPECT FOR CLASSMATES AS THE YEARS PROGRESS. EACH IS AN INDIVIDUAL, BUT HE IS IMPORTANT TO OTHERS. HE IS A PART OF THE WORLD; HE BELONGS. 1 4LL THE WORLDS A STAGE ... ALL THE MEN AND WOMEN MEREL Y PLA YERS: THE PLAY IS READY, THE STAGE IS SET. BUT WITHOUT THE ACTORS NOTHING IS ACCOMPLISHED. SO IT IS WITH US. WE MUST TAKE THIS SCENE OF OUR LIVES AND WORK WITH IT; SI L PE IT INTO SOMETHING MEANINGFUL, SOME¬ THING TO BE REMEMBERED AND APPLAUDED LONG AFTFR. THE STUDENTS ARE THE PLAYERS IN THE COMEDIES AND TRAGEDIES THAT ENCOMPASS SCHOOL LIFE. _ THERE ARE MANY WHO, AS THEY LEAVE NORTHWOOD, LOOK BACK ON THEIR HIGH SCHOOL DAYS AS SOME OF THEIR MOST FORMATIVE. THEY PLAYED THEIR PARTS WELL AND HAVE BEEN REWARDED BY EXPERIENCE. THEY ARE READY FOR ACT II IN THEIR LIVES. THEN THERE ARE THOSE WHO ARE TAKING THEIR FIRST HESITANT STEPS, FORMING IDEAS AND ATTITUDES TO CARRY THROUGH LIFE. THEY ARE THE UNDERSTUDIES WHO WILL LATER BE CALLED UPON TO TAKE A MAJOR PART. SO YOUTH PASSES TO MATURITY AND A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF LIFE. 5 AND IN HIS TIM ONE MA N PL A Y. MANY PARTS: THE MANY PRASES OF STU¬ DENT LIFE; ORGANIZATIONS, SPORTS, STUDENT GOVERNMENT; ARE ALL BASIC TO THE STRUC¬ TURE OF THE SCHOOL. A STU¬ DENT MAY BROADEN HIS HORIZON IN MANY WAYS. MOST STUD! PARTICIPATE IN MANY ' SCHOOL ACTIVITIES, EACH DEALING IN A SPECIFIC AREA. HE LEADS AND HE FOLLOWS; HE LEARNS TO AC¬ CEPT WHAT IS. A MAN BECOMES . . . HE LEA VES 10 _ THE LOVE FOR THE ALMA MATER IS NOT EASILY DEFINED, BUT IT EXISTS. IT DRAWS FORMER STUDENTS BACK TO NORTHWOOD TO REMEMBER AND TO WISH WELL ALL THOSE WHO ARE STRIVING TO BE WHERE THEY NOW STAND. SO WHILE WE WILL TURN OUR EYES AHEAD TO THE FUTURE AND LIFE, A PART OF US WILL ALWAYS REMAIN AT NORTH- WOOD, FOR WE WERE A PART OF IT AND IT OF US. WE CAN¬ NOT FORGET WHERE W ' E LEFT OUR CHILDHOOD BEHIND, AND ALWAYS W T E WILL LOOK BACK WITH LOVE AND CHERISH THOSE OUR FINEST HOURS. I will see this day but once, and if there is any kindness I can show, let me show it now, for I ' ll never see this day again. Tomorrow may be too late my friend, to do all the good that you planned, so reach out to those who need you and lend them a helping hand. In the first contest, the Falcons met Fair Park. Indians received the ball on the Falcons ' 27 yd. line. Despite a tough Falcon defense, Fair Park managed to score, but failed to kick the extra point. The Falcons ' drove down to the Indians 15 yd. line, but time ran out with the final score Fair Park 6-Northwood 0. In the second contest against Woodlawn, Jeff Kent made the only Falcon touchdown. Falcons Upset Indians The Falcons, remembering the Jamboree loss to Fair Park, came onto the field ready to play football. The first half was a defensive struggle with neither team mounting much of an offensive battle. After a scoreless first half Fair Park had taken the lead by scoring on its first possession running 20 yds. for the touchdown, but failed to kick the extra point. Northwood put together a 85-yd. drive to get its touchdown in the last quarter with Quarterback Chip Layton hitting 5-of-5 passes on the march, the last one a 6-yarder to Shell Stephenson for the touchdown with only 4:23 to play in the game. James Jackson ran 24 yds. off right tackle to get the Falcons going for the first touchdown to cap a 65 yd. drive. In the second quarter Dave Frazier busted up the middle for 13 yds. and the second touchdown. In the third quarter the Falcons came back with a 71-yd. drive in 9 plays with Chip Layton scoring from the one yd. line. Going into the fourth quarter the Falcons led Green Oaks 21-20. To insure the victory Chip Layton sneaked by the Giants to score the final touchdown of the game, following a Mike McGowan fumble recovery. This was an outstanding effort for the offense. Sophomore quarterback Danny Goode, who replaced tnjured Chip Layton, threw touchdown passes of 12 and 14 yds. to tight end James Bailey for Northwood ' s only touchdowns. STUDENT COUNCIL SETS TRADITIONS FOR NORTHWOOD Write-up Senior High Student council The purposes of the NHS Student Council for the 1972- 73 school year were to improve relations between the fac¬ ulty and the student body; to promote school spirit and, in general, to promote the welfare of the school. These goals were accomplished through various pro¬ jects and services. One of the most important projects was sponsoring the 5th Annual Homecoming. Other projects included sponsoring major elections, planning Chapel ser¬ vices, raising money for the United Fund and March of Dimes. But the most popular and effective of the Student Council Projects was the Nifty Fifty Day in which every¬ one followed the dress code of the 1950 ' s. 144 Officers: President- Bruce Hennigan V. Its purpose is to educate 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students about drugs and eventually try to cut down a large portion of the use of harmful drugs by the students in Caddo Parish. CODAC members serve North Highland Elementary, Greenmoore, Mooringsport, Northwood Jr. High, and Blanchard schools. Attending a drug lecture once a month is needed to adequately prepare the student for classroom work. Here he is free to choose whatever method he wishes to convey the lesson. The CODAC worker may assign such things as group discussion, reports, artwork, posters, or skits. He has at his disposal several films on drug abuse. Sponsored by Miss Barbara Dean, Student Leaders is for those girls who are interested in being future physical educators. By taking a part in first-hand experience, these girls are able to learn the professional aspects of being a physical education teacher. They assist our P. E. teachers by demonstrating techniques for various subjects such as tumbling, vaulting, basketball, volleyball, ten¬ nis, badmitton, and many other sports. Being a Student Leader gives one a deeper understanding and regard for physical education, as well as helping to build a strong and healthy body. It gives one an experience at responsibility and leadership among people one ' s own age. Most of all, a Student Leader has an insight into being employed as a P. E. educator.
