This is in the fact that they participate in the management and activities of the school; improve the faculty-student body relation; promote school spirit; set the high standards for the student body; and in general promote the welfare of the school. Among the many activities of this club were the sponsoring of the 2nd annual homecoming, in which the Excuses played; operating the school store on the third floor; compiling the student directory; and planning Chapel for every Thursday morning. The council also has the responsibility for setting up and running the major elections of the school. The carnival which is held each spring helps all the clubs raise money for their own use, while helping the council bring the school closer together. 113- Organizations OFFICERS: Rhonda Cook-Sec , Jean Davis-Pres .. The councils many projects include organization and supervision of Northwood’s fire drills and tornado drills. Another of the groups main duties is to check the parking lots and ramp area to maintain proper compliance with the safety rules designed by the council. In the parking lot they check to see that all cars have a parking sticker and that no lights are left on. They also check the lot to see that it is cleared of glass. On the ramp they check to see that only designated cars are parked there. The council is always interested in projects to make Northwood students more safety conscious, and acquire more information about the activities of safety councils in the area. Among these service activities was the Veterans Day Poppy Drive in which the club joined forces with the other service clubs in the school to help in the drive. Members of the club spent different days cleaning the grounds around the new Methodist Church in Blanchard and painting the Kiwanis hut in Blanchard. During December they collected canned food and toys for the needy families in the area so they would be able to have a Christmas. The most noticeable asset of the club is the many concrete benches that can be found in the mall area for the use of the student body. By participating in the Falcon Fair, the club will be able to raise money to help in other school and community needs. Con¬ trary to popular belief, editing a yearbook is a job, not an extra¬ curricular activity. This staff is probably the worst organized group at Northwood. There were times when I yelled and played dictator but they are still speaking to me so I guess they expected it. In spite of disorganization and other minor problems, they were a tremendous help. If it weren’t for them you wouldn’t be reading this now. Thanks to those of you who cared enough to devote your time and energy to this great work, THE TALON. As for that question, was it worth it?
