Summer Getaways Over the summer, Dar- ryl Brittain, Eugene Lyons, Nicky Holland, and Miles Helm attended Boys' State at Wake Forest University. They learned about the government at various levels, how it functioned, the political process, and how politicians present themselves to convince others. Also, they met in- teresting people and made many new friends. Boys’ Girls’ Jan Poindexter and Michelle Mills attended Girls' State at UNC-Greensboro June 10-16. They learned how to use parliamentary proce- dure, and they also learned how the inside of our government works. 20 Honors Governor’s Jan Poindexter also attended Governor's School East at St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, N.C. June 24- August 4. Her major area of study was math; she also took philosophy and psy- chology classes.

The 1984 season's record of 6-6 does not properly reflect the hard work of the tennis team. Coach Jim Hart worked with the team members, and tremendous improvement was shown as the season progressed, l.ars Stanley was recognized with All-Conference honors for his accomplish- ments during the season. Other members of the team were John Davis, Bret Grebe, Perry Harrison, Miles Helm, Jeff Lewis, John Marshall, Tern’ Oldham, Noel Parker, Chris Parker and Keith Screws.

Graduation 1 9B4 With final exams, much anticipation, and many days of practice behind them, it was time for graduation. On May 31, 1984, 138 seniors received their diplo- mas, turned their tassels, tossed their caps up into the air, and were officially declared alumni. Through all the trials, tribulations, and tears, they realized that at last they were out on their own. The Marshalls for 1984, from left to right, were John Davis, Michelle Mills, Cindy Brown, Frita Fairley, Jan Poindexter, Perry Harrison, Can Autry, Sharon Davis, Randy Bright, and Karen Davis.
