Terry Bryner ponders a hypothetical chess situation demonstrated on the blackboard by fellow Chess Club member Pete Olver during a club meeting. Strategy Important In Club Competition Practicing frequently during the week, the Bridge Club met after school to improve their playing abilities in the game of bridge. Members played each other in groups of fours, instructing one another to improve playing style and games- manship. A major part of the Bridge Club schedule included competition with numerous other schools. The club played area high schools, such as Springbrook, B.C.C., and Churchill, usually keeping the same partnerships to improve play. Also meeting at frequent intervals throughout the week, the Chess Club members played each other for both enjoyment and for practice. Members discussed and demonstrated playing strategy at the meetings. The occasional use of instructional materials such as books and magazines improved the playing skill of the individuals. Showing their enjoyment of chess, members chose to continue play outside of school at each other's homes. ln addition to playing one another, tourna- ments with other area schools were held at home and away.
