. .5 s :sf Student director Leslie Gradet helps Mr David Gammons in polishing the performances of Debby Hauptman and Jack Brownley at a rehearsal. Talent Shines ln Musical Production Northwood presented its third consecutive musical ASP on May first through the third. The Bells Are Ringing centers around the story of two cousins working in an answering service company. Sue, portrayed by Marsha Coates, owns the company, and Debby Hauptman, playing the role of Ella, is her kookie cousin who always creates some kind of disorder while trying to help other people. Every morning Ella calls Jeff Moss, played by Jack Brownley, to wake him up. Jeff Moss eventually meets and falls in love with Ella, not realizing that she is really the supposedly sweet old lady who calls him up every morning. Faculty director of The Bells Are Ringing was Mr. David Gammons. He was assisted by Mr. Wenhold, Mr. Putt, Mr. Baumann, Mr. Balderson, Miss Smith, Mrs. Kimble, Mr. Evans, and Mrs. Willis. Student director Leslie Gradet and stage manager Jack Horwitz volunteered much of their time to help the faculty directors in conducting rehearsals as well as helping to plan the musical itself. Many other students were involved in the musical, and it was their combined efforts that made 'this year's musical production the success it was. Chorus members Sandy Burns, Sue Schmidt, Diane Fortna, Sue Steely, and Kaye Stein prepare to sing the opening number at ASP practice. Activities 53

Exchange Student Attends Northwood During the past year the AFS program has greatly en- riched our understanding of foreign countries-especially our understanding of Greece. Northwood's AFS student, Roula Asonitou, who comes from the small island of Corfu off the Grecian mainland, spent a year at the home of hostess Connie Goldstein and her family. Here Roula put to use her favorite hobby, cooking, by preparing many Grecian dishes for her American family. To start off the year, the AFS club sponsored a bake sale with food from different countries, and then planned a Halloween party to introduce Roula to this American custom. Speakers from the Peace Corps visited to tell of their various experiences, and club members enjoyed a field trip with the Spanish Club to a restaurant to sample the Spanish cuisine. Later in the year, Roula spoke about her native country, and displayed many pictures of well-known tourist attractions in Greece. Countries represented this year by members of the American Fields Senfice Club include the Virgin Islands, Nonlvay, Costa Rica, Thailand, Israel, Ecuador, and Greece. Before her seventh period class, Roula Asonitou asks her classmate, Marsha Coates, some questions about previous homework. 'WSE wg X. l t ,S 53 . K . x C S Xi fists? as me W S ass XRS Q st f r y SN?
