-if-x,w, X Pupils Participate ln Major Activities Every four years the Constitution provides for presi- dential elections in which citizens must decide on a new president. In November the students of Northwood also felt the pressure of this decision during the hectic week before the election. Students attended an assembly, and everybody was campaigning for their favorite candidate. Climaxing the week were mock elections in which students learned the responsibilities of voting. Not only did Northwood students help to evaluate their own country's future, but they also helped with the eval- uation of their school. Teachers, students, and parents assisted in the re-evaluation of the school's philosophy by suggesting changes in its structure. Preparation for the county evaluation started last year and was continued throughout this school year. Earlier this year the halls re- ceived a fresh coat of paint, and general repairs were made. County commissioners, who evaluate Northwood every ten years, visited and observed NHS during March. Junior Marsha Tucker takes time to evaluate the school philosophy. After the mock elections outside the cafeteria in November, SGA members Sara Axelrod, Mike Young, and Jeannie Dorman count the votes. l .,.,, : t l l tg. Q M, 'R l 3 46 Activities l a

Winter Wonderland lneures Enjoyment Dancing under the crepe paper canopy to the music of the Expressions Band and Show, students enjoyed the scenery of the Senior Class's annual Winter Wonderland Dance. Two large papier-mache Snowmen, a well-decorated Christ- mas tree, and various sized cut-out snowflakes throughout the gym helped to set the atmosphere for the dance. During the dance, refreshments were served in the cafeteria. Punch tables were set up under a large snow-white parachute, and many different colored lights illuminated decorations hanging from it. Carla Flatequal became the new Winter Wonderland Queen when her date chose the Christmas-wrapped box with the lucky gold charm for her. Last year's Queen, Robin Wright, crowned Carla Queen during the climax of the ceremony. Dancing to the music of the Expressions Band and Show, Karl Noyes and his date Bobbie Peterson enjoy Winter WonderIand's atmosphere.
