PublicityCommittee Posts School News Headed by committee chairman Joan Nlurphy, the SGA publicity committee kept Northwood students informed of all the upcoming events in the school. In the beginning of the school year, the committee sold activity calendars and activity tickets. lt also sold a 1969 student directory, which was very popular with the students. Throughout the year it sponsored numerous dances and concerts, including the Welcome Dance and the Vice-Versa Dance. Included in the committee's many duties were such things as silk screening various posters, arranging the Ca Wing showcase, and putting up and painting bulletin boards. lt also helped to publicize the student government plans by means of different posters and the use of the morning and afternoon announcements. During the entire school year, the Social Committee worked in connection with the Publicity Committee to promote school-wide interests and to create school enthu- siasm. Under the direction of the Social Committee was the Booster Club. This small sub-committee aided in the arousing of the school spirit which prevailed throughout the year. The teamwork displayed by these three commit- tees helped in making this year's SGA a success. Publicity Committee member Pam Bozzi posts a memo in the hall. as an um mm we Decorators' Club members Keith Van Ness, Joyce Wasson, and Brian Kinsey work after school to plan decorations for the Vice Versa. Student Committees Sponsor Activities Headed by Karen Karl, the Welfare Committee sponsored numerous service projects both in and out of school. Every Nlonday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon, groups of coma mittee workers volunteered to drive into downtown Wash- ington, D.C., to tutor pupils at the SUSH Neighborhood Center. Other activities included such projects as a pill bottle drive for Children's Hospital, a shoe drive for the poor, collections for Biafrans, and a toy drive for underprivileged children. ln addition to selling NHS postcards to students, Citizen- ship Committee members planned the annual pumpkin carving contest. They also sponsored the traditional Awards Assembly at the end of the school year. Throughout the year the Decorators' Club worked dili- gently planning for the various dances, and they spent many hours in assembling ingenious ornaments to make the gym attractive. The Social and Hospitality Committee served Northwood by providing refreshments, hiring bands and selling tickets for the various school dances. Social Committee chairman Valentine Russack stacks some empty Fresca bottles after serving refreshments at the Welcome Dance.
