Electives Stimulate Individual Interests Dr. Moses and Mrs. Bricker comprised the staff of Northwood's Home Economics department. Child Develop- ment, a new course this year, provided an insight into child behavior. Area pre-school children participated in the course three times weekly. Mr. Wilson, the graphic arts instructor, began a photo- lithography course combining both photography and graphic arts. Our Auto Body and Auto Mechanics shops offered Northwood students a chance to gain experience in repairing automobiles. Electricity was designed to give the students a comprehensive knowledge of the fundamentals of electronics. New to Northwood, Mr. Balderson headed the architectural drawing classes. He was also the faculty advisor to the stage crew of the ASP, Bells are Ringing. Mr. Martin instructs both Metals l and Il. He has brought with him a new view of the course. Combining unusual techniques with skill, Mr. Martin has broadened the range of methods applied to reach the finished product. Our woodworking laboratory brought building projects into the hands of Northwood students. 3 . Miller Nelson Ostrinsky Lawrence Styer Students illustrate Vocational Abilities Many students program. These courses covered a diversified field ranging from Math to Shorthand. Also included were Typing, business courses were offered to prepare Northwood for vocations at the completion of the high school Business Office Practice, Bookkeeping, Economics, and Business Law. Students who possessed the greatest amount of proficiency in the areas of shorthand and typing received awards. Classroom work and work experience were combined in two courses offered at Northwood, Diversified Occupations iDOl and Work Oriented Curriculum iVVOCi. These classes helped alleviate some of the immediate problems of the working student. After completing these comprehensive programs, a student is ready to face the business world with an understanding of its complexities and with knowledge of many necessary skills.
