Alford Carl Bell Phyllis Bellamy Doug Brown Robert Gallagher David Goldenson Teachers Instruct Math and Sciences Various mathematics courses broadened the scope of knowledge of Northwood students and increased their many skills in fundamental applications. Algebra classes emphasized quadratic equations, the solution of linear and simultaneous equations, and logarithms. Geometry classes explored plane and solid geometry and worked with various axioms, postulates, and theorems. Students in Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry classes studied matrices, determinants, permutations, combinations, and polar equations. Introductory Analysis students employed methods of integration and differentiations and their applications. Science courses continued to combine individual research and experimentation with a textbook study. Biology classes were acquainted with the internal and external structure of various living plants and animals. They explored more complex organisms with the use of high magnification microscopes. Advanced Biology students participated in a more intensive study of cellular life. Earth Science classes stressed laboratory work while they studied the earth and its relationship to the universe. Chemistry classes discussed and conducted experiments concerning chemical theories and laws. Encompassing the study of mechanics and light, Physics students employed group study and laboratory experiments to aid comprehension. lVlr. Bob Bowles explains to his Earth Science class the construction of the anemometer and wind vane used to measure wind speed.
