Maurice Ward checks Frances lVlanus' note for an early departure. Superiors Assume Principal Positions Controlling all the operations of the school from his desk and from personal observation, lVlr. Harold Packard assured Northwood of continued smooth functioning. In addition to his usual duties, lVlr. Packard prepared for the evaluation of the school and approved new educational programs. Among these were independent study for physics classes, a new child development course, and a non-credit, pass-fail philosophy course. Assisting lVlr. Packard in his many duties, Northwood's three vice-principals, lVlrs. Pierrel, lVlr. Smith, and lVlr. Ward supervised the new computer attendance program, and main- tained a school calendar for all school activities while coordi- nating class projects. They helped to enforce discipline, main- tained the building and grounds, and advised lVlr. Packard on school policy concerning distribution of all literature by students and the goals of education. New proposals from the Student Government Association and other student groups such as the Student Forum and the Student Alliance con- cerning the dress code, ungraded classes, open-campus policy at lunch, and individual study programs were considered and acted upon by the administration. Among other changes, the student dress code was abolished. Under the good judgment of lVlr. Packard, Mrs Pierrel, lVlr. Smith, and lVlr. Ward, Northwood sought and achieved great goals in the field of education.
