Rim is gs t J M .s Q 5 in -f isis K i Junior first baseman Bob Yates makes a fine catch against Springbrook. 1 16 Sports Stickmen Establish Superior Defense Clutch hitting, excellent fielding, and outstanding pitching was exhibited by this year's baseball team, despite the first losing season in three years. Beginning the season by defeating Walt Whitman on the strong pitching of southpaw Bob Kleinknecht, Northwood showed able defense with superior plays by Les Holt and Lou deSabla. After a close loss to Sherwood, the Indian batters lived up to their potential and scored 19 runs in their next two games, winning over Kennedy and Damascus. ln the game at Damascus juniors Bob Yates and Steve Kimber each hit a homer, while junior catcher Steve NlcGugan hit two home runs, as older brother Mike pitched a one-hitter. Other mainstays of the Northwood nine also played very well. Bob Passemente and Barry Weinberg provided batting punch as well as fielding ability. Seniors Barry Markowitz and Danny NlcComas helped the team with timely pinch hits. Coach Hogue only carried eighteen players, but they all worked hard to give the Indians a victorious and successful season. ., s 6 f .
