JV Cagere Defeat Divisional Leaders Although unable to achieve the scoring records ofthe year before, the Junior Varsity cagers still retained the best vvon- lost record ofthe winter sports at Northwood, 1 1-7. Junior Eddie Jaffe's consistent outside jump shot and Rich Dudley's driving shots kept the little Indians in contention for the divisional crown. Like their older counterparts, the J.V. slumped at the end of the season ruining their chances of a championship. Despite the disappointment of not winning, '- junior Al Cohen's playmaking and sophomore Dave Clark's much improved rebounding were bright spots for the future. Individual Abilities Although Northwood had a disappointing season, the grapplers achieved many individual highlights. Two of the top wrestlers, seniors Lou deSabla and Dan Consuegra, were injured early in the season hurting the team's earlier expecta- tions. However, seniors Eugene lVlinamota, Ralph Rota, Doug Koehn, and Durwood Yates excelled in their respective weight classes. During the regular season lVlinamota was undefeated in the 95 pound class while Rota lost only once. As the season progressed, the many sophomores wrestling for their first wins steadily improved until Dan Messick and Dave Wasson each won in the county tournament. The high point of the season was unseeded Ralph Rota's County Championship in the 103 pound class. In his first match of the tournament he defeated last year's Regional Champion, and he also pinned his opponent in the championship match. Doug Koehn placed in the county meet, and he and Ralph went to the regional tournament. Unfortunately, Koehn lost in the eliminations, but Rota went on to eventually capture fourth place in the 1969 Regional Tournament. Sports 111
