Harriers Complete Successful Season Senior Ralph Rota and juniors Richard Dunnigan and Brett Dunkelman led a strong cross country team to a fourth place finish in their section in the state meet. Rota placed seventh, while Dunnigan and Dunkelman ran to ninth and thirteenth place finishes, respectively. During the year seniors Gary Levine, Lee Shapiro, and Mark Kushner helped the team to capture two firsts, three seconds, and one third in the regular dual and tri-meets. Highlighting the meets was the consistent good running of juniors Winfred and Randol Leach, John Fiormonti, Don Brenner, and sophomores Greg Briehl and Jeff Levine, who will return next season. After a slow start in the first meets, the runners, under the coaching of lVlr. Frey, improved to crush Good Counsel for their first victory of the season. Following a loss in a close meet with Springbrook, the cross country team again beat Good Counsel to finish the year. Harrier Randol Leach races past Blair rival in dual meet. Although Northwood lost the meet, the Harriers placed 24 in the state meet. 1 . f'g.,farw 1 fa ai QQ ? 1-S' M - ff ' 1: f as f . M? .P 'Q After a powerful offensive victory over Kennedy in the first game, the little lndians finished the season with a 1-7 record. The JV, like the varsity, faced a tough schedule. Unfortunately, Northwood's offense never got going again after the first game, but the defense did improve throughout the season, Only twice did the opponent's scoreboard light up with more than twenty points. fa-A..-1 Junior Jim Foster and Sophomore Dave Bugden played well on the line. Junior halfback Marvin Bynum was the major offensive threat. Many of the little Indians showed promise under the coaching of Joe Verbinski and should be great assets to the varsity football team in the next two seasons. J.V.
