Defense Highlights Northwood Football Finishing the hardest football schedule Northwood has ever faced, the Indians fared well against their powerful opponents. Northwood demolished its first foe, Woodward, before the start of a seven game losing streak. Despite the successive losses, the indians played well on defense in games involving two top teams of Montgomery County, Springbrook and Richard Montgomery. Against Richard Montgomery, a team which averaged 35 points per game, ends Barry Markowitz and Mike McGugan led the defense to hold the Rockets to only nineteen points. Dan McComas and Les Holt also played well in this game. During the Whitman game Northwood's offense finally lived up to its potential, scoring the most points since 1963. ln the spirited and hardhitting homecoming game, Northwood played well on offense and defense only to lose on a broken play in the last forty seconds of the game. Generally unnoticed was the fine line play of All-County selection Dunlvood Yates and Bob Kleinknecht. Running by Mike Ryan, Lou deSabla, Steve McGugan, Robbie Silberman, and Dave Baker throughout the season was encouraging. Unfortunately, Ryan was injured for the last four games, and only Steve McGugan will be returning for next year's schedule.
