T l-S 17' X xl' M. Under the able supervision of Mr. Edward A. Bartlett, Northwood has made astounding progress towards becoming the outstanding school in our community. When Mr. Bartlett took his place on September 10, l956, as the principal of this chaotic group of teach- ers and students who were to make up Northwood, he was faced with many problems. He overcame the obstacles present when opening a school still under construction -- one without lockers, books, desks, or electricity. He initiated a program of activities and courses which united the student body in building a loyal and strong school spirit. His patience, under- standing, and ability to see the problems of today's youth have enabled him to bring forth high standards of scholarship and citizenship at Northwood. iff Vs: f. ff? J ,f ' 'x ll.- ln appreciation and in recognition of Mr. Bartlett's leadership and guidance we the Staff of the 1958 Arrowhead, hereby dedicate to him, this our first yearbook. We wish to thank Mr. Bartlett for guiding us through the infant years of a growing school and for creating the reality which Northwood is today from a dream of yesterday. fa if X9 i Q59 ,, - ff' fx: , -fi' ' f'E'VTT - '- af:-,Q - ' , wi - up - .. --- ,BWI li' - .. Jabas, Our deeds follow us, and what we have been makes us what we are. Robert Carl Lehm, I never trouble trouble, till trouble troubles me. ln keeping with the festive season, we sponsored a Christmas formal, The Winter Wonderland. And a winter wonderland it was with the beautiful Mollie Gorski reigning as queen in a formal as white as the snow flake decorations. Her Maiesty's Court included Mary Bowser, Elaine Carnvale, Mary Cipolari, Gale Dawson, Pattie Domingus, and Carol Griffith. Finally, spring rolled around and with it came the culmination of our high school days in finals, the Senior Banquet, the Senior Prom and, at long last, Graduation Thinking of tomorrow and what it holds for us, we feel quite small, but, the past has prepared us well for the future and we can go forward with confidence to meet the world. 44 tv fi 1 Q., . White Life as Freshmen is often a combination of mixed feelingsg for it is a time when you pause to glance back over the yesterdays of iunior high school, to evaluate your progress to date, and to establish your goals and patterns for tomorrow. So, throughout our Freshman year, o new sense of seriousness prevades the air. We realize that high school is going to be an exciting challenge and quite a bit more than football games and dances -- it is today's preparation for the tomorrows of life, Yet, all is not seriousness -- there is still time to laugh at our own mistakes and to take part in the many varied and enioyable activities which develop good leadership and a sense of respon. sibility in Northwood students. Despite the changing elements of this transitional year, we can honestly say, Nothing beats life as a Freshman! Mr. Davis's civics class visiting with Gov. Koutsos J- Wolf Jfucdmi Can Northwood has a Student Congress of which it is iustly proud. Through the support of the student body, for wh it was illustrated that all could work together for the mutual bene- fit of Northwood. This new spirit of unity was most strikingly illustrated by the success of the Magazine Drive. It would be impossible for the Student Congress to function efficiently without its standing committees. These committees worked constructively throughout the school year. The social committee planned Student Congress dances and assisted other clubs with their social functions. The Decoration Committee decorated for all the dances, and the Science Fair too. The ln- School Publicity Committee should receive credit for a large share of the success of all Student Congress activities by making students aware of current and coming events. The Welfare Com- ich it is a voice, f. f J mittee had charge of the booster button sale and instigated the many other charitable projects ot the Student Congress. The Building and Grounds Committee obtained the suggestion box and made plans for obtaining a school sign. They also backed the Cafeteria Clean-Up Drive. The Out-of-School Publicity Committee made the community aware of all Northwood activities through the newspaper articles, radio announcements, and store display. Without the work of our Student Congress, never have been able to rise to the place it now Northwood would holds in the eyes of the students and community. So how about a cheer for our Student Congress for a iob well done! Citizenship Committee L. to R. Seated-E. Leibowitz, B. Diepenbrock, E. Carnvale, Standing- S. Bean, D. We must thank them for much ofthe additional enthusiasm which was apparent among the students this year. ln order to show its appreciation, the student body has helped buy uniforms for its fine band. And, wherever the team went, at home or away, there were enthusiastic spectators to cheer them on. Every basketball game was filled with tense mo- ments like this. Kenny Ladd reaches high in a iump for the ball. Get that ball the crowd would shout and get it they always did. Here we see Mike Dantzic in one of those terrific plays which made our basketball season such an exciting one.
