of Left to right are seated the following oflit-ers of Sextant: Joi-IN G. GRossMAN, treasurer, JOHN E. DEVITO, vice-president, Josnru P. Wnnmc, president. .Ions E. KUNZE, secretary. and ITENNETH C. SNYDER, social chairman. .Vexranf Fraternity Whenever youse guys is ready! Thus spake Joe Werle, President of fha' Naval honorary fraternity on campus. The motley congregation sneers, puts down the trashy French novels they have been reading in the wardroom, and shouts, Huzzah! and another meeting starts. After reading the minutes and appeasing the various 'sea-lawyers' whose uncanny memory for in- consequential figures would put. a C.P.A. to shame, the log is corrected and the various com- mittee heads and ofhcers make their humorous reports. The Hrst is probably the treasurer whose predecessor is now in Portsmouth. It seems that we have been stashing the cash in Absr-ondcr's and Defaulter's National Bank of Evanston and that the total assets are astronom- ical, while our debits come to fifteen 4159 cents which was the outlay for the Ed Rose Memorial Pen Wiper , the purchase of which was 11111111- imously O.K.,d. Now you can't fool me M1'. Treasurer. I know for at fact that Sextant funds are being used to throw caviar parties for your own Greek letter fraternity. Accordingly we should have been overdrawn months ago! Well anyhow the chipping goes on ad infinitum. Then comes the social report. Should we give the Empress candidates free tickets to the ball or Slllllllflllit we? Haggle, haggle, for another half hour. The lads who have library dates try and bring the discussion to a close by suggesting that the Navy Ball be opened to everyone. The more astute economists ridicule this idea. Let's leave it up to the ofHcers, shouts a lad who evidently has more than enough discharge points. This idea is taken up immediately by the members who undoubtedly are reconverting too fast. The next topic precipitates a deathly hush. It's proposal A9x which deals with the planning of a party, get-together, smoker, dinner or any general brawl which will necessitate our being given liberty on a week night, Any suggestion no matter how ludicrous is given great cogitation by the assembled 'fellowsl' The truth of the matter is that although Sex- tant has some points it may be chided on, it is in reality one of the most worthwhile organizations on campus. It is an important- instrument in the morale of the Navy unit. It brings men of different student rank and classes together on common ground. It gives trainees a chance to see the oHicers in an entirely different light and to be able to discuss the various aspects of Navy life other than those phases which are discussed in the classroom. It was founded on this campus by an earnest, sincere and amiable man who has won the respect of every trainee of his acquaint- ance. His name is J. C. XVilkins, Lt. USN Creti. Lt. WVilkins embodies the true ideals of Sextant. It has assisted in molding the officer and the gentleman and it's tenets as propounded in the initiation ritual are remembered and prac- ticed by all constituents.
