THE DEANS SYLVAN W. NELKEN Dean of Administration DUDLEY G. FULTON Dean of Men The Dean of Women and the Dean of Men are responsible for the general welfare and happiness of the entire stu- dent body. Their services to Northwest- ern State College are numerous and time consuming. The duties of the Dean of Women are not limited to the academic phase of the women students ' life but reach out to include work with social programs. She also serves as ad- visor of their student government. Responsibilities of the Dean of Men range from assisting with the colleges social program to giving counseling aid outside the academic area of the school. In addition, his duties include such mat- ters as discipline, financial problems, and advisor for the social fraternities on the campus. FRANCES ELLEN PORTER Dean of Women LUCILE M. CLARENCE E. DUGDALE Dean of Arts and Sciences HILDA C. BURNHAM Dean of Nursing ACADEMIC DEANS For purpose of administration of instruction, and in keeping with the offerings, the College is divided into five schools, each administered by a Dean. The objective of the School of Education, headed by John A. Jones, is the profes- sional training of teachers. Robert A. Easley is the Dean of the School of Applied Arts and Sciences. The ob- jective of the school is to prepare students for employment in professional fields of business, nursing, industry, and agriculture. The School of Arts and Sciences prepares a student for entry into professional schools such as law, medicine, and ministry, and also for vocations in various fields. This school is administered by C. E. Dugdale. Hilda Claire Burnham is Dean of the School of Nursing which has as its objectives the promotion of health, disease prevention, rehabilitation and the care of the handi- capped and ill. To afford the students an opportunity to carry on their studies to an even greater degree N. S.
