THE Murphy P. Rogers Dean of tlie College The youngest of the deans in age and in point of service, Dr. Murphy P. Rogers has an outstanding record. He seems to be plan- ning great things for the College. H. Lee Prather Dran of Students Concerned with keeping the students appeased, Dean Prather finds it necessary to draw on all his reserves of friendliness and fellow- ship, (jualities that have made him the popular man that he is. ACCOMPLISHMENTS With the graduation of the class of 1939, Albert A. Fredericks will com- plete his fifth year as President of the Louisiana State Normal College . . . It seems fitting that we review the outstanding events of his term of office . . , First of all, the enrollment in residence, correspondence, and extension class students has increased 45 per cent under the administration of Presi- dent Fredericks . . . The varied activities of President Fredericks in the educational and social world and his appointment to state-wide committees have popularized the name of NORMAL among influential circles . . . New extra-curricular activities have taken root in the past five years, making the students ' leisure hours interesting ... A vast intramural league in all sports and entertainment has been inaugurated to stimulate competition between the various groups . . . Alumni clubs have been established in numerous cities. The Alumni Columns reaches the homes of graduates all over the South . . . Among the improvements on the State Normal College campus during the past five years are the Richard W. Leche library, a new power and light plant, including a parkway lighting system, three N. Y. A. dormitories, that accommodate over 200 students, reno- vations of all the old buildings on the campus, a new football ' ' bowl, embracing a football field and a quarter-mile cinder track and an extensive roadway and landscaping project . . . Under con- struction as this edition of The Potpourri goes to press are a fine arts building and auditorium, two dormitories for women, a social room, a men ' s dormitory, a stadium, a student center and natatorium, and additions to the infirmary and to the power plant . . . All of these accomplishments have been brought about largely through the keen foresight and untiring energy of our president, a man who has endeared himself to the hearts of students, faculty and administrative staff members, and graduates of the college.

DEANS Miss Dean E. Varxado Dean of If omen The Dean of Women, Miss Dean E. Var- nado, acts in the capacity of a general ad- viser to the women students of Normal. A closer relationship is insured to each woman which gives increased incentive for higher scholarship. Mrs. Ethel L. Hereford Dean of Off-Campus Women and Social Director Mrs. Ethel L. Hereford, Dean of Off-Campus Women and Social Director serves the town girls in the same way that Miss V ' arnado serves the club girls. As Social Director, she exercises supervision of all social events. [ 19]
