Smith was the Normal ' s first training teacher, serving from 1886 to 1897. The memorial known as the Alby L. Smith Scholarship Fund was established in 1897, and during its existence until 19 1 4 nine young women graduated from the Normal as bene- ficiaries of the fund. The Alby L.
