Nev- ertheless the advice and guidance we received from Mrs. Kalvoda will enable us to stand firm. She has always been generous with her time, and eager to help us with personal problems, studies and even career counseling. Along with her duties as a biol- ogy and physiology teacher, Mrs. Kalvoda is also the coordinator for Northwesternfs Gifted Pro- gram. She has always command- ed the most from her students, and the Gifted Program has be- come a tremendous success. Due to her efforts, we, the Class of 1975, look forward to the coming years with assurance, with optimism, and with confidence. We would like to thank Mrs. Kal- voda and dedicate the 1975 Key to her. ,A NL. :, Q-- Class of '75' ---. -Nl, A ' is r no 5 1 gf X -w N ' x ' ' fu Q ' ' X53 I' T KX, 5 -H lp:- VZ 5 1 ,,- fi x6..'Sw' .Q X f ix I X pf qv Yf RN p L W Na IL Q, BOARD OF EDUCATIO The Board of Education at Northwestern is a very important group. The members, selected from Barkhamsted, Colebrook, New Hartford and Norfolk, arejoined together to institute and uphold school policies. The Board also determines the school budget. All major changes must be approved by the Board of Education. They also deal with problems within the system. The members are: Nicholas Fanelli, Chairman, Eugene McMahon, Treasurerg Mrs. Norman Thompson III, Secretary, Gerard Connors, Richard S. Coffin, Ernest B. Sinclair, R. Merritt Stevens, and John Toffolon. gefs SUPERI TE DE T v 1 PRINCIPAL The most importantjob of a school is to create a climate that students and teachers can be fully functional inf' says Mr. Joseph C. Bickford, principal at Northwestern. For the past two years, this has been his goal. Through his efforts he is making education more effective here at Regional. In addition, Mr. Bickford is responsible for developing a budget, keeping track of textbooks and supplies and assist- ing the administration in constructing schedules. This year, he is planning major revisions in the curriculum in associa- tion with the curriculum task force. We want all students to have a program of studies that will prepare them for the future. Mr. Rogers is a representative of the district towns for the Board of Education. He is also the superintendent at Northwestern. While working at this job he has to make decisions concerning the welfare ofhis students. He is work- ing to find a better way ofeducation, and by looking around the school, it is evident that he has proceeded well along the pathway to that goal. Mr. Bickford v I i ' ml HOUSEMASTERS AND G IDANC wi... . Housemasters at North- western are Mr. Robert Chester, Mr. Lawrence Dejohn, and Mr. Paul Za- jac. They are faced with the unpleasant job of handling cut slips but are always pre- pared to give students a sec- ond chance. They keep in constant contact with the students in and out of their houses and are always ready to give a needed word of advice. They work hard to keep an orderly but friendly atmosphere. SN A FRIEND OR TWO There's all ofpleasure and all of peace In a friend or twog And all your troubles may find release Within a friend or twog It's in the grip of the sleeping hand On native soil or in alien land, But the world is made f do you understand Of a friend or two. A song to sing, and a crust to share With a friend or twog A smile to give and a grief to bear With a friend or two, A road to walk and a goal to win, An inglenook to find comfort in, The gladdest hours that we know begin With a friend or two. A little laughter, perhaps some tears With a friend or two, The days, the weeks, and the months and the years With a friend or twog A vale to cross and a hill to climb,- A mock at age and ajeer at time - The prose of life takes the lilt of rhyme With a friend or two. The brother-soul and the brother-heart Of a friend or two Make us drift on from the crowd apart, With a friend or two, For come days happy or come days sad We count no hours but the ones made glad By the hale good times we have ever had With a friend or two. Then brim the goblet and quaff the toast To a friend or two, For glad the man who can always boast Of a friend or twog But fairest sight is a friendly face, The blithest tread is a better pace, And heaven will be a better place For a friend or two. 15 q . ,J Q15 PO RTS f Jar H '41 W'-Q.- '+,-- ,:lnnf'A'x-' ,- '-in ..- i .- 5 I -I 1 . For many years Mr. Perry has coached the J.V. Tigers. With the end of this year's season Mr. Per- ry's soccer days came to a close. There's no question that Mr. Perry deserves a long rest after his years of service. He can look back with pride upon the men he prepared for Var- sity soccer. This year the exchange program is with Simsbury. The band also provides music for Graduation Ceremonies. The Dance Band performs at concerts and dances each year. The Junior High Band also engages in the same parade as the Senior Band.
