The          teacher          training          institutions          of          the          state          of          Ok!ahoma          during          the          early          days          of          statehood          were         probably          adequate          for          those          days.          Since          that          time          many          new          problems          have          arisen;          there          has          been          great         scientific          progress.          Nations          of          the          earth          are          closer          together          in          terms          of          transportation          and          communication         than          they          ever          were          before.          It          has          become          necessary          for          the          colleges          of          the          state          to          progress          along          with         the          advancement          in          science,          literature,          industry,          and          the          arts.         There          was          a          time          when          graduation          from          high          school          was          accepted          for          teacher          certification.          The          time         came          when          a          Bachelor's          Degree          was          required          in          Oklahoma          and          finally          the          Master's          Degree          has          become         the          goal          of          most          public          school          teachers.          This          year          the          Oklahoma          State          Regents          of          Higher          Education         authorized          the          Oklahoma          State          Colleges,          of          which          Northwestern          is          one,          to          offer          a          Master          of          Teaching         Degree.         Along          with          the          progress          in          curricula          and          teacher          certification          have          gone          improvements          inthe          physical         facilities          of          these          institutions.          Northwestern          has          recently          dedicated          a          more          modern          and          ample          Health         and          Physical          Education          Building          and          is          now          in          the          process          of          constructing          a          modern          Natatorium.          This         college          will          soon          undertake          to          construct          a          student          center          where          Wyatt          Gymnasium          now          stands.         The          faculty          members          of          this          institution          have          constantly          been          upgraded          so          that          many          faculty          members         have          Doctors'          Degrees          and          nearly          all          of          those          who          do          not          have          the          Doctorate          have          sixty          or          more          graduate         hours.         The          progress          of          the          college          is          consonant          with          that          made          in          the          scientific          and          industrial          world. Thomason's          energetic          versatility         and          graciousness          have          won          him          the          respect          of         Northwesterners          and          Alvans.         aa         Dean          of          Women,          Myrna          Boyce,          is          known          C.E. It          has          always          housed          a          studious          and          fine          looking         bunch          of          girls          and          this          year          is          no          exception.          Mrs.          Lennie          Heasley,          the          house          mother,          and         proctor          Carol          Hunter,          keep          them          quieted          down          when          it          is          curfew          time,          because          like          all          girls         they          like          to          have          their          fun          when          they          are          supposed          to          be          ontheir          best          behavior.          And          when          it         comes          to          being          ladies          when          they          want          fo          it          is          hard          to          find          their          equal.         The          building          was          first          put          into          use          in          1939.          There          is          a          large          dining          room          in          the          basement.         The          building          will          accommodate          130          women.          Much          of          the          social          life          of          the          college          centers          in         the          dormitory          where          there          is          an          attractive          parlor          to          provide          settings          for          receptions,          teas,          and         parties.          The          building          is          of          brick          and          concrete          construction,          fireproof          and          thoroughly          modern         in          every          particular.         VINSON          HALL         At          right          is          a          large          number          of         the          boys          who          live          in          the          halls          and         rooms          of          the          dorm.          In          their          midst          is         the          house          mother,          Mrs.          Calhoun,         who          makes          sure          (or          tries          to)          that           the         boys          don't          set          off          any          fireworks          with-         out          being          detected.          She          is          aided          by         Proctor          Jim          Stringer.
