Psychological Society President: Fred Plamondon Vice President: Spencer McCa11ister Secretary-Treasurer: Cathy Cowie Advisor: Mr. Holland The Psychological Society is a new organization at N.M.C. The purpose of this society is to further the understanding of the methods, current techniques, research, and application of psy- chology of interest to the members of the society. The Society has sponsored some movies during free hours, dances on Weekend nights and has had some renowned speakers on the different phases of psychology. 45

PEAKER Among the many -outstanding people to appear at N.M.C. this year were James M. Hare, Philip A. Hart, and John Minnema. James M. Hare, Secretary of State, met with the N.M.C. students and staff as the Hrst of a series of seminars. Mr. Hare discussed general problems of state government and answered specihc questions concerning gasoline and busi- ness taxes, licensing, highway construction and allocation of state funds. Philip A. Hart, lieutenant governor of Mich- igan, when speaking, stressed the need for young people to align themselves actively with a political party. Mr. Hart was sponsored by a Democratic study club. Pictured above is Senator john Minnema of Traverse City who spoke to many groups about the many processes of legislation and how young adults can take part in the government of their city, state, and nation. 44

Vets Club President: Spencer McAllister Vice President: Donald Hatfield Secretary-Treasurer: Alice Kalchick Faculty Advisor: Mr. Rogers The Veterans Club of N.M.C. was founded by james Leffew in the fall term of 1956. All veterans of N.M.C. are members of the club. At the present time there are 52 members. The club has been active in college functions, especially in raising funds for the benefit of the college. Since its inception it has contributed approximately 351000 to the College Building Fund. This was done primarily by selling chances on a Model A Ford which is scheduled to be an annual function of the club. Besides raising money, the club has sponsored the Spring Picnic, college dances, and this year is having a Beard-Growing Contest. 46
