French Club President: Steve Mikowski Vice President: Herv Steed Secretary: Toni Dolan Treasurer: Jean Richards The French Club has been one of the most active clubs on campus since its organization in 1951. This year has been no exception. They have continued to support a young French boy through funds raised by several dances, one of which was the annual Halloween Mas- querade Dance. Also funds were raised through selling concessions at every other basketball game, alternating with the Pep Club. One of the highlights of the year for the club was the French dinner cooked by Barre Hill, featuring authentic French dishes. 43

Its purpose is to have the members become familiar with the culture of the Spanish speak- ing people and also to learn more about the countries in which they live. PEAKER Among the many -outstanding people to appear at N.M.C. this year were James M. Hare, Philip A. Hart, and John Minnema. James M. Hare, Secretary of State, met with the N.M.C. students and staff as the Hrst of a series of seminars. Mr. Hare discussed general problems of state government and answered specihc questions concerning gasoline and busi- ness taxes, licensing, highway construction and allocation of state funds. Philip A. Hart, lieutenant governor of Mich- igan, when speaking, stressed the need for young people to align themselves actively with a political party. Mr. Hart was sponsored by a Democratic study club. Pictured above is Senator john Minnema of Traverse City who spoke to many groups about the many processes of legislation and how young adults can take part in the government of their city, state, and nation. 44
