They shocked us with quizzes, showered us with knowledge, and reprimanded us for our mistakes. They learned, laughed, and leveled with us. They showed us film strips, physics equations, and finished us off with their tests. Because of their dedication, we learned our lessons well. -d R 0 I 9. v X WN A 5 si , is ,,:... Part ot a secretary's duties are making announcements, typing the announcements, and helping Mr. Fisher and Mr. Nemes. They are also in charge ot all telephone calls to the school, sorting the mail and assisting our superintendent, Mr. Nagle. It it were not for the secretaries' work that is accomplished each day as they sit at their desks, the school would feel they were missing something. Thanks to all the secretaries and all the people in our offices for helping the student body and the teachers. t Carolyn Hamm Dorothy Hartman Administrative Assistant Tax Collector Julia Hill Sylvia Koenig Administrative Assistant Secretary Marie Mathieu Joyce Metzger Secretary Library Secretary ll' A .. 3 sg- 1151-:X :A .JQQSQ X X U mg.. Mi xx W A A f 2' HIGH SCHGOL ADMINISTRATION This year we welcome our new administrators. Mr. Nemes is taking over as our new principal. He has proved to be very helpful in our school by making quite a few changes in our school. Mr. Fisher who was a teacher here last year, has been promoted to Assistant Principal. He is responsible for student discipline and general conduct ofthe student body. Mr. Kenneth Fisher Mr. Dennis Nemes Assistant Principal Principal SCHCDOL DISTRICT ADIVIINISTRATIGN We have yet another new face that can be recognized at Northwestern, Mrs. Virginia Succumbe. Virginia is the Curriculum Coordinator. Her duties include talking to the teachers about their particular subjects and seeing how they can be improved. Mr. Naugle, our superintendent has a very important part in keeping our school in order. Mr. Fleppert is in charge of our clean halls. With the aid of Mr. Naugle and Mr. Reppert, as well as all the administrators, we will see a very clean and orderly school. I . I Mr. Robert Naugle Mrs. Virginia Succumbe Mr. John Reppert Superintendent Curriculum Coordinator Director of Support Services ALWAYS ON THE JOB, BUT NOT ALWAYS REOOONIZED Carl D. Snyder George F. Southworth President Vice-President Always on the job, but not always recognized. This is an accurate description of Northwestern Lehigh's School Board. There are many people behind the scenes whose thoughts, ideas, projects, and plans reach out to the student every day. Much is being done to improve the quality of education at Northwestern Lehigh. The president of the School Board is most successful in guiding the School Board members. With the help of the School Board, we are bound to see some beneficial results in the future. Willard A. Southworth, Forrest A, Wessner Jr. 21 At the crack of dawn, before we are even out of bed, the Northwestern Lehigh cooks and custodians are already at school busily opening up the building. The bus drivers have the task of driving all the students to and from school. They get up early in the morning and come to school. They also are the ones who put up with all the talking on the buses. Bus drivers have the tension of getting all the students to school safely, while the roads are icy and slippery. Could you imagine coming to a cold, dark school with no heat and no electricity? The maintenance men are responsible for our warm and lighted school. They also make sure that the bleachers are pulled out for activities and assemblies. . THEY KEEP IT TOGETHER , . There has never been a day when anyone has been turned away from the lunch line due to a lack of food. The kitchen staff prides itself on the variety and nutrition of our meals. Imagine what Northwestern Lehigh would look like if no one swept the floors, washed the windows, or emptied the trashy unbelievable!! It takes a lot of elbow grease and ingenuity to keep the building this size clean and intact. Mechanics make sure all the buses are in running order. The buses must be able to withstand all types of weather. We must take the time to thank the mechanics for keeping the buses in a safe, riding condition. Bernadette is from Belguim and attended the Institute der Dames van het Christelijk Onderuijs, which is an all girls school. There were no athletic activities at he Institute, so when she came to Northwestern, she went out for hockey and basketball. She likes Northwestern better than the Institute. Bernadette noticed a more relaxed feeling between the students and teachers, and that there is less studying done by students. Bernadette has two sisters and one brother. She enjoys eating all kinds of junk food, and also enjoys all sports. Suvi means late spring - early summer. Suvi was born in Finland but later moved to Sweden. While living in Sweden she attended DeGeer, and also played the organ there. While here at Northwestern, she is participating in basketball. Suvi has one brother, Esko, who is 19 years old. Her favorite food is perogies. The only difference Suvi found between Northwestern and DeGeer is that there are more subjects, but classes aren't run every week day. The thing she likes most about Northwestern is that the people are very nice to her. We hope Suvi enjoyed her stay here as much as we enjoyed her staying here. We hope Suvi has a wonderful future that is filled with happiness. Vo-Tech We learned new trades vvniie enduring the same bus ride to and from sonool, day in and day out. VrwaswVf The Lehigh County Vocational Technical School is an extension of all secondary schools. There are many students who are involved in the Vo-tech course. lt is open to all students in tenth to twelfth grades interested in their future career. This is the opportunity for students to get an idea cf their future career before they are actually in the working field. Students take a great deal of pride in their work as well as the school itself. This is not only a chance for the student to study their career, but also to meet many other students from all area high schools who you will remember throughout your high school years. The Vo-tech is much like your home school, by which they have a student council, a prom, a school store and their own special yearbook. All students work together in the Vo-tech as one and therefore have a lasting reputation. Vo-tech is a great experience! Xe-.. .,., in 120 if ri 1+ f A mm f f ma 'Rf I :Ji 4? One year is required of all sophomores. This program is divided into clusters, including: Service Creative, ProductionfMarketing, Transportation, Construction, and Electro!Mechanical. Within these clusters are different job career areas, each dealing with the 'main' cluster. Each student will spend 30 days in each class. flfteport cards are sent out quarterlyl. If the student attends the following year hefshe will choose the career they would like. Students do not realize the importance of this MOE program and should, therefore, take it seriously, for it is the stepping stone of their future after graduation. fi z 1 . They have been accused of loitering the halls, disrupting classes, alarming dedicated secretaries, ruffling quiet library sessions, kidnapping innocent bystanders and forcing them to get their mugshots and prints taken, shooting everything in sight, remaining at the scene of the scandal falias Northwesternl pretending not to be working fcausing trouble for the janitorsl, and, most of all, for enjoying to take part in these shrewd misdemeanors otherwise noted as disorderly conduct. There is even evidence of the accused having in their possession odd weapons such as croppers, grease pencils, and a stamp, and also of using last-year's year- books as their protection against the unknown. Since most of the staff is consisted ot Seniors, and the remaining percentage are known troublemakers as well, the verdict is Guilty-As- Charged. But, thanks to the defender, Mr. Gary Phillips, the persons under suspicion will be held for questioning and then discharged. if 5 S fi Defender. We created this book for you with hopes that it will be cherished in the years to come, Reverie is a collec- tion ol pictures and words which bring back all the special memories shared by all students. The missing ingredient is you, the reader, to make all our pictures talk and come alive again. This year at NHS was successful in some areas. Although our athletic scores are not always the greatest, they still gained much recognition to our school. We may have not won all the games, but what counts is that we tried, we cried, we fought, and all together as one, we experienced. Even though we may not be the best. we can sure give it a try by showing our Tiger spirit and being proud ol our name We must strive together, as one unit to meet all challengesg by having pride and confidence in ourselves, this goal will be easily completed. Being Editor of this yearbook was a very valuable experience for me, something that is not easily forgotten. Yearbook is not an easy job like everyone thinks it is, but it requires time, work, pa- tience, and ellort. People on a yearbook stall usually do not ree quire much recognition by the student body, rather they receive criticism. You rarely hear someone say, The yearbook really looks nice. Instead, you usually hear complaints like, This name isn't spelled right or That's not his name or Why did they have to put that picture in? There are many concerned students behind the scene that devote many hours of tedious work into producing the yearbook. I would like to show my appreciation to these people: To Mr. Gary Phillips, the Advisor. To Karen Frey, my aocomplicewho calmed me down when l was ready to scream when something went wrong. Thanks to the entire stalf for putting up with me. I also would like to extend a note ol thanks to all the teachers for their cooperation with us throughout the year Although this year has come to an end, may you always keep in mind this exciting year at NHSQ and what a lun-lilled year it was! Sincerely. 'l75 we The 1983 Northwestern Yearbook Staff would like to express our appreciation to the people who made this book possible: Mr. Gary E. Phillips for his time and effortg Ed Patrick, Yearbook Representative of Taylor Publishing Company for their help in the publication of our yearbookg Memory Houseg l-larwick Photographyg and, most of all, the student body and teachers. This book belongs to: Name Address ln Memory Of I JEFFREY ROBERT DAUM and KEVIN ALAN OESTERREICH Those we hold most dear never truly leave us ...... th ey live on in the kindness they showed, the comfort they shared and the love they brought into our lives. - lsa bel Norton - God hath not promised skies always blue, Flo wer-stre wn pa th ways all our lives through, God hath not promised sun without rain, day without sorrow, peace without pain. But God hath promised strength for the day, Rest for the la bor, light for the way, Grace for the trials, help from above, Unfailing sympathy, undying love Who we shared many happy occasions and very special moments with. No matter if they are here physically or not, their presence will be felt in our every- day lives. We will remember Kevin by visualizing his face getting bright red when he was embarrassed, it took him at least five minutes to cool back down. Remember how he always had those funny, smart remarks to say to whatever someone said. Kevin used to complain all the time about anything and everything. Jeff always seemed to be in the library instead of in class. He was known for saying, l'm impressed! and You'll get over it! He considered everyone his good buddy. Jeff was always a good natured' guy and hated when he got stabbed in the back. 4,591 -,, . -. .MQ Mi -Q, . ,MQ .As Q'?WfUf?JWW9i' K 1 fi?-'ffffm-if?
