enior Cfadd 'Oman anal clhafory On August 25, 1949 the senior class of 53 unloaded from the school busses, Ready to make the best of their high school career. There were 57 of us. Our class officers 'were David Summe, Carolyn Freeland and Gail Con- well. Jay Graber, Paula Bailey, and Bonnie Gillam represented our class in the Student Council. Miss Richards and Mr. Dean were chosen our sponsors. We had our first party at Becky Garrison's house. Our first money making project was at the Halloween Carnival. The second year at N.H.S. found that we had lost 12 of our previous classmates, but gained Mr. Gilbert, Mr. Davis 5 new members. Our sponsors remained the Carolyn Freeland, Lois Wilson same. Jay Graber, Gary Jackson, Bonnie Gillam, .Tay Graber, Ray Graber and David Summe were chosen as the leaders of our class. We also sponsored a skating party and took over the ice cream and candy sales for the year of 1951. We chose our motto, Hitch Your Wagon to a Star , our flower, red roseg and our class colors, red and white. Our third year found us more eager to go places. We decided to go to the Barbara Ann Scott Ice Review on November 27. This was enjoyed very much. We. took over the paper and changed the name to the Northwesterner. Mr. Barnhart helped Miss Richards this year. Jay Graber was chosen as President, Wayne Moss was his helper, while Sandra Ingle did the scribbling and Lois Wilson handled the dough. We gave a play, 'No Soap , on March Z7 and 28 in our auditorium, which was a success. On April 30 we treated the seniors to a big feed at the Junior- Senior Reception in the Kokomo Y.W.C.A. Our senior year, the climax of our years at Ervin, Howard, and Northwestern, found us starting out with Mr. Davis and Mr. Gilbert as sponsors and again .Tay Graber for our President. We presented our senior play, Strangers Beware , in October. Also in this month we sold magazines to help with the expenses of our senior trip. We were treated to a turkey supper for selling over S1500 in magazine subscriptions. Next came the choosing of the annual staff. Then the work began. Selling ads and unpublished annuals proved to be fun as well as a big job. After putting a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into the publication of the Panorama , we deem it a success. Having our senior pictures taken, ordering our announcements and caps and gowns, and making plans for our trip East were all part of the fun of being a senior. Our class of 53 with 43 members is the largest to have graduated since the consolidation. 10
