with family The 1969 Del Nord Ovest was dedicated to Miss Katherine C. Kenney because of her untiring dedication to this school. In addition to being the head of the English department, she is involved in many activities: TRI-HI-Y, National Honor Society, and the Yearbook. It is with a great deal of pride that the staff of the 1968-69 Del Nord Ovest dedicates this book to her. 3
A yearbook is many things: it is a recollection of our thoughts, deeds, hopes, aspirations, successes, failures, good times and bad, friendships, arg- uments, and memories. A yearbook should be something more than just a reminder of our high school days, though. It should reflect part of the world that we lived in during our days spent at our Alma Mater. In the year 1969, a student was more aware of the world that he lived in than any generation of the past. The yearbook should reflect this awareness and the sense of involvement that the students shared in this period of their lives. Among the events that affected our generation, and perhaps generations to come were: The war in Viet Nam The racial strife between white and black Discontent with the government Assassinations of beloved individuals Student unrest and riots Inflation Threat of nuclear disaster Perhaps it can be argued that a yearbook is not the place to discuss the problems facing our world. I feel that it is fundamental that we remember what problems existed during our high school days:for twenty or thirty years from now we can look back on these troubled times and remember their importance. Maybe when our grandchildren graduate, these problems will have been Solved and the world will be a better, more peaceful place to live. William Lawrence Editor 1969 Del Nord Ovest
