PRINCIPALS’ MESSAGES To the Graduates, Class of 1964: Congratulations upon your achievement. We are proud of each and every one of you. We hope for you a life of excitement and service; may it be also one of labor and love. As you think about your years in school, we might ask you, “What was important”? Was it the Prom, that football game with Girard; an assembly program? Or are the incidents that gave you satisfaction and that still make you proud the ones like the success that you had in completing' a difficult task like an alg'ebra problem, the conjugation of a verb in language, of the successful solution of a chemistry experiment? How about the time you were able to say a kind word to someone or the time that you were able to give encour- agement and praise to someone deeply discouraged. Remember, too, the thrill you had when you were a member of the team or of a group that had achieved unusual success. Just what was and is important in life? Is it only what we do, or is how we do it important, too? It has been our pleasure and privilege to have known you and to have worked with you. Come back to visit us when you can. Sincerely yours, Charles C. Gilbert Principal Mr. Darwin C. Cook Assistant Principal 6 Dr. Donald C. Thompson Supervising Principal Mr. Charles C. Gilbert High School Principal To the Graduates of the Class of 1964: Never in the history of mankind has the pace of progress of men’s knowledge been so rapid. Experts warn this rate of increase is accelerating at such a speed that the educated individual of today will be unlearned in many phases of life by the close of a single decade. Whether you enter your life vocation now or whether you enroll for higher levels of formal education, I urge you graduates who have mastered so well your challenge for today at Northwestern to continue to grow in the mental, the physical, the social, and the spiritual aspects of your personal- ities throughout all of your lives. May the Com- mencement of June, 1964 truly be a commencement for a new era of learning for you. Thank you for the happy, worthwhile years together. Come back home to Northwestern, often! Dr. Donald C. Thompson Supervising Principal
