£ut September 9, I960! The students of Northwestern High School wish to extend a special thanks to the many citizens of the community, who individually or through the various community organizations have helped to make the I960 football season one that will be long remembered. The Boosters Club, under the leadership of President Floyd Valentine, worked long and hard to get the field in shape for the first game. The men of the Penelec, the Bessemer Railroad, and the Roger Brother Trailer Cor- poration were instrumental in this project. It is with sincere gratitude that the faculty and student body of Northwestern High School acknowledge the efforts of Congressman Stanley Blair and Roger Brothers for obtaining and transporting the bleachers now installed at the field. The fine season of hard fought games, which produced several victories made the acquisition and preparation of a football field well worth the time and effort of all those who made any contribution. if NORTHWESTERN NORTHWESTERN NORTHWESTERN NORTHWESTERN NORTHWESTERN NORTHWESTERN NORTHWESTERN NORTHWESTERN NORTHWESTERN 3footbaiI Scores UNION CITY FAIRY IEW WATTSjSL’ RG FORT ®BOEUl- WESLEYVfLLE NORTHEAST LAWRENCE PARK GIRARD GENERAL MC LANE

|!rtnctpal0’ Jltessages To the Class of 1961: Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men! Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers. Pray for powers equal to your tasks. Phillips Brooks This year of Our Lord, one thousand nine hundred and sixty one, your graduation year, presents to you a world in turmoil: on the one hand, the threat of racial suicide by lethal storms of intercontinental missiles, bitter cold war sporadically breaking out into small hot wars, and conflict between the ideologies of free men and slavery; on the other hand, the thrilling horizons of elimination of disease and suffering, of the end through automation of man's cen- turies of drudgery, of man's exploration of the unknowns of outer space, and of peace among men through an effec- tive United Nations. These are times to make the faint-hearted quail, or to challenge the stout- hearted to greater heighrs of achievement. 1 recommend to you the philosophy of Brtx)ks. Knowing you of the Class of 61, I, with confidence, believe that you will meet these great challenges of 1961 in a far better way than has my genera- tion met -its challenges. Good luck. Come back to visit your friends at Northwestern. Don C. Thompson To you, the members of the Graduating Class of 1961, we extend our sincere congratulations. You have worked diligently for twelve years, and now you are leaving our jurisdiction. To some of you these twelve years are only the beginning of your formal education; to others, it is the completion. You may be sure that our best wishes for a long and full life go with each of you as you leave us. Remember your school is interested in you and in what you do. Please come back to visit us often. Sincerely, Charles C. Gilbert 7
