Varsity Basketball Tournament Title, and Finish THIRD in State In the next game of the season, Northwestern lost a very physical battle to Fort Mill. Kiser kept the Trojans in the game during the final quarter, scoring fourteen points in cmcial situations. The Trojans got it all together in their following encounter, stomping Chesterfield 82-46. With the starters playing half the game and the reserves playing the other half, the Trojans had nine people score, four in double figures. This victory built up the rattled Trojans' confidence. The Trojans expressed their killer instinct as they clob- bered Lancaster 74-47. Outstanding defense, a tough full court press, and strong rebounding, along with hot hands was the name of the game for Northwestern. The first encounter ofthe season with the cross town rival ended in the Trojans' favor, 75-60. Jim Kiser again led the Trojan attack in the second half. Geno Walden also had a fine game. High scorer Rick Sanford poured in twenty two points for the night. The Trojans then ran over Chester 66-46 with Geno Walden and Rick Sanford playing especially well. Substitutes Danny DuBard and Herman Johns got into the action scoring a basket each. Winnsboro's name was temporarily changed to Lose- boro as they fell to the Trojans, 77-62. Revenge was in the Trojans' eyes as they played a fine team game in both ends of the court. Hot was the word of the night, as Northwestern scalped the Gaffney Indians 79-56. With all five starters hitting better than fifty percent of their shots, the bench saw plenty of action. Tough defense was also an asset for the Trojans. The Trojans managed to hold off a strong fourth quarter attack from Union to win their sixth consecutive game 74-66. Marvin Crawford, team leader in assists, had ten for the night. Dewey Bowen pulled down eleven rebounds. Geno Walden scored two crucial buckets to ice the win.
