' 9' , Q. f 5 - ' l 441 'iii- FRED N MEMRER ri 'CHOLS J The main goal of our Community Council was to work closely with the principal and other administrators of the Northwestern area to implement the community school concept in the Northwestern community. Officers for the organization were chairperson, Sam Mosley, chairman elect, Charles Smith and secretary, Captoria Legardye. Its main objectives were as follows: Q11 A quality education being our number one priority, the council will involve itself with curriculum from programming to processing in an attempt to insure that our youth can compete academically at all levels: Q21 to promote community involvement through the community council sponsored projects: Q31 to provide activities that afford an opportunity for total family participation: Q41 to develop the image of a truly community school by providing classes and programs based on community needs: Q51 To work closely with sponsors of student organizations in planning projects that are cultural or recreational in nature: Q61 To present Northwesten Community High School as a focal point for community use by community groups when additional physical facilities are needed: Q71 Develop methods of becoming more knowledgeable regarding the priority needs of the community and publicize accomplishments by working closely with available communication sources: Q81 to be sensitive to the needs and aspirations of the community and community councils and act or react in regard to their endeavors: Q91 to work within the framework of an allotted budget offering as many supervised activities as possible: Q101 to be actively involved in civic projects and consult local residents to assess local conditions.

Club V.I.C.A. Club, fVocational Industrial Clubs of Americaj is sponsored by Mrs. Margaret Wasburn here at Northwestern of which there are 100 members. Membership into the club requires that all students be enrolled in one of the Health Occupations Cluster. The main purposes of the club are to develop leadership skills and to unite all students in a common bond enrolled in trade and industrial education. The V.I.C.A. Club took trips around the state of Michigan and explored different fields of Health Occupations education. This year they visited ,Hurley Medical Center, the Lansing State Capital, The Sloan Museum and the River Bend Nursing Home.
