Expedition Staff Shows Appreciation TO THE NORTHWESTERN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT BODY: All the events that take place in our lives make us what we are. You are a different person today than you were at the beginning of the 1977-78 school year. The staff of the 1978 Expedition and Mr. Semmes, advisor, have compiled some of the many events and ideas that have influenced you throughout the past year. In this book you can find pictures of the majority of your friends and teachers at NW during the 1977-78 school year. You can review the activities, clubs and classes that made this year special. Of course there were many personal experiences you have enjoyed that were impossible for us to record, but we hope that this yearbook can help you remember and enjoy the memorable moments that we were able to capture. TO THE FACULTY AND ADMINISTRATION: The efforts of you, the Faculty and Administration, to cooperate with the staff over the sometimes difficult demands necessary in producing a yearbook is greatly appreciated. The guidance and instruction received from you will continue to aid the students of Northwestern even after they graduate. This fine group is headed by Mr. Donald G. Gaviglio. TO THE STAFF OF THE 1978 EXPEDITION: Few realize the hard work that is put into a yearbook, except those that have experienced the opportunity to work on one. There is little, if any. recognition for the blood, sweat and tears shed by the staff, photographers. editors and advisors. Many a sleepless night was spent trying to meet Qand hopefully makingj a copy deadline. The photographers worked long hours after school and often on weekends either taking, developing, or printing the many pictures needed. The business manager carefully counted money until every penny balanced. The experience gained and the important qualities learned through the hard work of putting together a yearbook is priceless, but the real reward is the product of our labor - The 1978 Expedition. For me it has been a worthwhile venture. I am ready to go on to bigger and better things. I hope you, as my staff, feel the same way. We extend our gratitude to the following: -Mr. Michael Frandson - Walsworth Publishing Company -Mr. Dave Barr - Hicks Studio - film developing eMr. Frank Mishina and his Photography Club for film developing -Van Dyke Studio. Group and Team pictures -Mrs. Betty Grindstaff. Advertising -Financial Manager, Mrs. Deloris Huttenga -Special thanks to our advisor. Mr. Robert Semmes 1 978 Expedition Staff Advisor, Robert Semmes: Editor-in Chief, Barbara Brown: Assistant Editor, Sherry Stewartg Layout Editors, Gary Stewart and Antonio Pea: Typists, Lyndava Morrison and Gloria Mason: Staff members. Mary Foxworth, Delinzo Hairston, Rosland Mask, Jackie Sims and Geraldine Smith. In Memoriam The 1978 Expedition Staff wishes to dedicate this particular book to the memory of Duane Thomas. Special thoughts go out to this fine young man because he was a member of our Northwestern student body and would have marched in this year's graduating class. The sting will go as you learn to see Me in all things. Nothing Gold can Stay Nature's first green is gold Her hardest hue to hold. Her early leaf's a flower: but only so an hour Then leaf subsides to leaf. So eden sank to grief. So dawn goes down to day. Nothing gold can stay. by Robert Frost Duane A.
