The Student Senate is the governing body of the students and is very active with various committees and activities throughout the year. Members are elected from each dorm as well as commuters to serve on the Senate. The Senate also sponsors many social events on campus including dances, movies, and parties. Officers include Dave Van Gorp, treasurer: Nina Evans, social life chairman: Mel Wallinga, president: Denise Heemstra, recording secretary: Henry Te Paske, social life chairmang Deb Sinkey, corresponding secretaryg and Wendall Kampmeng vice-president. The Library Club consists of any students in library classes which usually consist of majors and minors. The club's sponsor is Mrs. Peg Juffer and the club meets informally throughout the year. Some activities this year were a picnic and a home-made ice cream party at the Juffer's. Sigma Tau Members of Sigma Tau this year include: Jeff De Haan Linda Hammerstrom Sue Den Herder Mary Ann Anker Ted George Karla Sietstra and advisor Dr. Lyle Vander Werff is .-f' f -4 The 1976-1977 English club was busier than ever. The club organized an English Club Advance in January on Literature, Film, and Today's Christian. The Spring Leaves was also edited by members of the club and it's advisors. The spring CMA English Division Conference was hosted by the English Club in April featuring Dr. Horace Newcomb on TV: What's the Story? To be eligible for this organization the members must be regular students at NW for not less than one year prior to election, and must be in the upper ten percent of their class. Membership shall also be based on Christian influence, service, and general attitude. The club meets at least once a month and often writes articles in THE BEACON that may be of interest to all students on campus, as well as intellectually stimulating. English Club

Alpha Psi is an elite group with a certain number of points needed to be earned before acceptance into this club can be obtained. These points are collected by working directly with the plays.
