Text from Pages 1 - 128 of the 1984 volume:

Our theme this year is ‘ By their fruit you will recognize them 1 Used fre¬ quently in the Bible, the vineyard pro¬ vides an apt example of productive spiritual growth. You are a branch of the true vine. Therefore, your life finds its source in Him. Your fruit, the evidence of that life within you, comes from Him, also. Bear fruit, for when people taste of it they will praise the owner of the vine¬ yard. 1, After polishing off a meal David Tharp eyes someone across the cafeteria as Tom Symens leans back in a rickety chair. 2. The team was composed of only one junior, the remainder of the team being freshmen and sophomores — a prom¬ ise of continued success in the future. A highlight of the season was a trip to Texas, which resulted in a 6-0 cham¬ pionship at the LeTourneau Invitational tournament. Women ' s Volfeyball 29 Young Team Goes Places The Eagles had a rough start; how¬ ever, as the season progressed, the team improved and gained more confi¬ dence in themselves. They ended the season with an 8-7-1 record. The unity of the team was a major ingredient to their success. Internal conflicts were few while the support and oneness were tremendous. Mike Cameron attributed much of their success to Coach Gunderson stating that he gave them “a new and different perspective of the game. He taught them how to prepare psycho¬ logically for the game; he gave them a vision to strive for, and he demonstrate ed the techniques. The team was young this year with 50 percent rookies. The team devel¬ oped well together and Coach Gunder¬ son sees a massive potential for next year. The Eagles had a vision to go places and they did. The mis¬ sion of the Student Missionary Fellow¬ ship was to encourage, direct, and pro¬ vide for those whose goal was to serve Christ in mission work. Each Friday in chapel the opportunity was given for students to share through an offering. The money was used to support stu¬ dents on summer missions projects. The fellowship met for times of shar¬ ing experiences, answering questions about missions, and praying for the worldwide need for workers. Service in Song Sophomore Tim Walsh reflecting on what Male Chorus meant to him stated, ' the best thing about Male Chorus is how many opportunities are given to serve God. Not only in singing, but also in preaching and teaching which makes this outreach extra special. Male Chorus has 21 members which sing forth in four part harmony. Kyle Wilson directs the group with the help of April Fedde and Lisa Goris on the piano. Male Chorus ministers in churches and at school on special oc- casions. Male ChorusM7 Repertoire Expanded Led in a new approach by Director Richard Edstrom, the 53-voice choir learned and performed more music than in previous years. Because of a wider range in voices, the choir ' s rep¬ ertoire was expanded to include songs which utilized the low basses. In March, they performed with Ste¬ phen Nielson and Ovid Young in a re¬ gional premiere of Song of Thanks¬ giving. The choir also sang a variety of numbers for the MM.E.A. Mid-Win¬ ter In-Service Clinic. 1 4 Along with the school ' s other major performing groups, the College Choir celebrates the Christinas Festival, sing¬ ing a medley of carols. 2 . Randall Voder, David 107 Yum, Linda 93 Zdrazil, Thomas Whew! It s done! As I look back at all the carbon copies of pages long sent in and of deadlines missed; I think to myself — NEVER AGAIN! Seriously, it was a pnveledge for me to serve as editor of the 1984 Scroll, Although many times I wanted to give up, the Lord gave me strength to persevere, I would like to thank my dedicated corps of workers this year. Sharon Caret served as assistant editor and cropper-in-chief. She helped keep things ethical and burned the midnight oil along with me in order to complete the book. Shelia Shipler, Barb Hoekman, and Sheila Peterson also put many hours in drawing layouts, redrawing layouts, and suffering through the horrifying task of copy writing. Thanks for coming to my rescue. Also deserving of praise are other staff members Janice Swenson, Dawn Lincoln, Julie Gorham, Kim Leavitt, Nancy Bast, Dana Habich, Junie Estridge, Monica Groves, Denise Carlson, Gina Johnson, Dawn Johansen, Cathy Blood, and Dori Stark. Thanks again! Oh yes! My photographers! I would like to apologize to you for the demands and pressure I put on you two. Dennis Jenkins and Todd Ericson came through in the end. Thanks guys. Others that helped us with the production and deserving of thanks are Nancy Post and Joan Schroederfor the countless lists and help with identification. A special thanks to the people of the W. institute for the unique pictures used in the division pages. Finally, a very grateful thank you to Mr, Jerry Beilby, our advisor. Thanks for the help and encouraging support — you are very much appreciated , (Your check is in the mail), Thank you all. In Christ, Jim Frantz editor Index f 119 “ ... so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God ...” Colossians 1:10 120 Closing --
