The academic year ot I963-64 has been another step in the climb ot Northwest Nazarene College. She began as all climbers-small, indecisive. struggling, weak-but the climbing has tared her well. As she glances at the first titty years other climb, she sees that those tirst infant steps have become giants' strides in her goal to reach the top. Lead me higher. nothing dreading, ln the race to never stop: ln Thy footsteps lceep me treading, Give me grace to reach the top. The movement up lceeps the climbers excessively active. Whether one finds his medi- tation in the religious world or elsewhere, he must find that time when he comes to grips with himself and realizes his personal dependence and social impor- tance. Matchless in beauty and simplicity: incomparable in clarity and in- sight: and timeless in application and meaning: it still torms the towering baclc- drop tor our duties and our dreams. Pity the impoverished Iives with no high places: no mountains tor teaching, no high places where vision ancl perspective hold the eyes ot the soulg and ot course no Mount ot Transtiguration, when the eternal bends earthward, and tor a moment we see and know tor ourselves. Rev. Wilson Lanpher, pastor ot College Church, adds thes words of devotion to our bool: representing all ot the Naz arene Churches in Nampa and in our educational zone. Nampa too is surrounded by moun- tains-distant, enchanting, mysterious. But it is the tervent prayer ot those who care, that no NNC student's lite will be without its high places. Worshiping with others, expectant in taith, and blessed by the Church's changeless message . . . a mountain ot meditation, Wilson R. Lanpher February 3, I964 Dr. Hardy C. Powers Spring Revival Rev. James Bond, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene in Casper, Wyoming, held the Spring Revival at College Church and NNC this year. Strilcingly similar to Billy Graham in sermon presentation, Rev. James Bond preached ser- mons basic to Christian doctrine in a vigorous and meaningful fashion. A graduate of Pasadena College, he was the student body president during his senior year. An outstanding basketball player, he was named to the Little All-American Team and represented the United States in the Olympic Games. After he was graduated from the Nazarene Theological Seminary, he pastored in Olathe, Kansas, before going to Casper. Fall Revival Dr. l-lardy C. Powers, General Superinten- dent of the Church of the Nazarene, effective- ly served as the evangelist for the fall revival, held September 29 through October 6. l-le delivered powerful and persuasive messages in both chapel and College Church. Dr. Powers is senior member of the Board of General Superintendents and has long been a favorite speaker for college revivals. i Rev. James Bond Miller Lectures Dr. Stephen S. White ot Kansas City, Mis- souri, presented the twentieth annual Miller Lecture Series this year. Speaking on the theme Major Concepts ot God, Dr. White's scholarly insights and observations made this year's series a rewarding experience. Dr. White holds tour earned degrees, in- .cluding a Ph.D. from the University ot Chicago. l-le has served on the faculties ot two Nazarene bolleges, as well as that ot the Nazarene Theo- logical Seminary. l-le was editor ot the Herald ot Holiness and has written several books. .Q fg .,'a Rev. I am somewhat amazed at the multitude of things that have been accomplished. Mountains have aI- ways intrigued me. And, when searching for a theme for this book, I could not have chosen a more significant or meaningful theme than that of mountains-mysterious, splashed with grandeur, gigantic, rugged. tumultuous, indiscernible--all aspects of the realistic life. This book could not have been possible without the tireless efforts of several. Deserving special recognition are the photographers of the yearbook, Ellis and Elaine Chapin. Their work centers on excellence and their business centers on dependability. Caxton Printers through their representative, Dick Peacl. have been extremely helpful and cooperative. Marian Washburn and L. Wesley Johnson, advisers, spent many hours working with the content of the book and the financial concerns. To them, I give special thanks. Serving in an honorary capacity as adviser has been our college president, Dr. Riley. He has given time to check over some details that have proved to be extremely beneficial. Gary Locke, business manager. has worked hard and industriously at his task. Special thanks to Gary for a job well done. Thanks also to Kathi Watson. assistant editor, Linda I-lalter, Dennis Forrester, Gary Coulter, and all of the staff members are also in order. Although one person must claim the title of editor, he would be a very ineffective one without the help of the others. It is my wish that this book will be a treasure to each person who owns one and that it will be a keep- sake of this year at Northwest Nazarene College. mms.
