The Seventues Were Not Boring On lanuaryl we changed our calendars for another new year and saud goodbye to a decade known as the Seven tues Those past ten years were fulled wuth changes that went by so fast ut s a wonder that they were ever notuced The Seventues were not borung although many hustoruans saud that they were The medua fed Amerucans dauly doses of Watergate The accused vullauns were convucted or pardoned and now seem to be gettung ruch off the royaltues from the countless books they have publushed on the subject We wutnessed for the furst tume the resugnatuon of a presudent Ruchard M Nuxon Thus forced then Vuce Presudent Gerald R Ford to take over and restore order to the shamed presndentual offuce Later un 1976 Ford ran agaunst a former peanut farmer and Georgua governor lummy Carter ln a very close decusuon Garter won the electuon The Democrats had funally put a candudate back unto the top offuce Ameruca reached her 200th burthday un 1976 The Bucentennual was celebrated throughout the year On july 4 festu vals parades fureworks and other festuvutues were held to commemorate thus truumphant peruod lust last year we became wutnesses to a near nuclear dusaster The cause for atomuc energy was severly unuured due to the accudent at Three Mule Island un Harrusburg PA Wuth the threat of an exhaustuon of oul supplues many had pro claumed that nuclear energy was the best solutuon However after the Three Mule Island uncudent many munds were changed Fads exploded on the scene one day and went out the next Can you recall how many bare fannues you saw streak by? Dud your mood rung always tell you that you were un the rught mood? Wonder how many mum skurts are stull hang ung un the back of some gurls closets? At the box offuce and on televusuon people were vusuted by an aluen from the planet Ork and experuenced a close encounter of the thurd kund Movue goers traveled to galaxues far far away were almost eaten by sharks and were bumped off by the Mafua We saw a luttle gurl throw up pea soup and twust her neck around Yes ut was a fun decade at the movues After watchung the mass suucudes at Guyana Amerucans went to the duscos to dance the nught away The world of entertaunment lost such heavues as Elvus Presley Bung Crosby and lohn Wayne Many world leaders such as Democrat Hubert Humphrey and Chuna s Mao Tse Tung dued The Seventues were fulled wuth tumes of trouble and pleasure At the close of last year and the begunnung of thus one Amerucans were faced wuth a crusus when 60 Amerucans were held hostage un lran For many of us the Seventues were a tume of growung up It was a peruod of adolescence hugh school and problems although devastatung then seem very munor now What wull the Eughtues hold for us?
