This year has been one of excitement, happiness, and scholastic betterment, but most of all it has been one of success. As you, a student of North- west, look through this i965 edition of THE ROCKE- TEER, we hope that you will understand why we feel that The Key to Success Can Be Yours at Northwest! 4 ' THE KEY , ' 'W Q T0 ' E QQ Q E ..........uu SU C CE S S 1 -- Q ,J Q F-QAN BE YDURS AT QQ, , omg mGQ NCRTHVVE ST ms? 4 5 V .,,,s..,-w 'w The 1964-65 school year has been perhaps the finest in the history of Northwest Mississippi Junior College, according to all measures available to us. The enrollment has been at an all time high, the quality of the student's work has constantly improved, the teaching staff has been superior: the building program continues to expand. We accept these facts as a challenge, however, for the demands of the future are even more pressing than those of today. I feel that we are privileged to live in the greatest era of all time. To be a part of the amazing changes that are taking place today gives students the opportunity to mold and direct the destinies of men. May I commend each sudent for his contribution to Northwest this year and for his efforts to prepare himself to meet the tremendous challenge of the future. Sncerely yours, l I 4?DW 6123! R. D. His friendly smile, wise counseling, and endless energy have become a source ot inspiration to the students of Northwest. VVith these qualities in mind, we dedicate this i965 edition of the ROCKETEER to a former NWJC student, Mr. Robert King. On October 18, 1964, Cammie Elizabeth Thornton of Courtland, Mississippi, was killed in an automobile accident near her home. For those who knew her and loved her, the memory of Cammie will never die. 9 ,sw s Don Bartlett, President Wilson Edmondson, Vice-president C. B. Walker, Secretary H. B. Appleton David H. Bennet J. NORTHWEST-David Still It is a very rare occasion when two stu- dents from the same town go to college and are equally accepted and well-liked by the students of a college, it is even rarer when they are both elected to the highest honor on the campus. Such a coincidence happened this year at Northwest. Martha Lynn, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Woodruff, Jr., and David, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Still, both hail from Batesville. They have gone to school together for fourteen years. Martha Lynn served as co-editor of the ROCKETEER, president of the Christian Fel- lowship Council, vice-president of the student body, secretary of the Science Club, treasur- er of Sigma Tau Sigma, and a member of the SEA her sophomore year. She served as vice-president of the Northwest Players her freshman year. David has played football at Northwest for two years, serving as co-captain of the team this year. He was named to the Jun- ior College All-State Football team as a sophomore. Having served for two years on the Student Council, David served the latter year as president. He was also a member of the SEA and Sigma Tau Sigma. David and Martha Lynn both set Student Council records this year - David as the first boy ever elected President as a write-in candidate and Martha Lynn as the first co-ed to be elected vice-president. These socials are sponsored by a number of organizations, but mainly by the Student Council. During the first week of each semester, the Student Council sponsors a Get-Acquainted dance. This free dance provides an opportunity for students to meet each other. Just as all other dances, it is held in the school gym- nasium, with a local or school band providing the music. This year the Student Council also sponsored a Halloween Sock-hop, a Thanksgiving dance, the Christmas dance, a Valentine's dance, the Spring Formal dance, and the annual Homecoming dance. Festive decorations highlighted the Homecoming, Christmas, Valentine's and Spring Formal dances. These decorations were provided by the Student Council. The Christmas and Spring Formal dances were semi-formal affairs. All of these dances were unusually well-attended by both campus students and outsiders from our district. 176 f for f 0 Q- vwxm x f 5 wi?
