Colleen Muhs, Leslie Daberkow, Rhonda Grosch. Jackie Rauerl. Coach Vertin. Il was a very rewarding experience playing on ihe team. - Joni Quandt Super! 99 It was the best teamwork ever. Before it was just one or two. - Jackie Rauert Super was the word Coach Schultz used to describe this year ' s Varsity team. The Lady Vikings success was due to three and four years of hard work by the players stated Coach Schultz. The road to success started when the Vikes won their own Holiday Tournament and the Central Ten Conference championships. A victory over Central Catholic in the finals of Districts earned the Vikings their first berth ever in the State Tournament. They beat Ord in first round action and advanced to the semi-finals where they lost to Crete giving them a 24-1 record the best ever for any team at Northwest. For most of the season the Vikes were rated number one in Class B by the Omaha World Herald and the Lincoln Journal-Star. They were rated sixth overall in the AP poll. Jackie Rauert, Leslie Daberkow. and Joni Quandt were named to the All- West Division and All Central Ten Conference first teams. Coach Schultz was honored with the KRGI Sportscasters Coach of the Year Award. It was a dream that we worked for for four years and it finally came true. - Colleen Muhs State was great, it was different, it was a new experience. - Donetta Shultz We couldn ' t ask for a better season. - Colleen Muhs 93

We learned to work together as a team. - Stacie Spiehs STANDING: L-R: Coach Vertin. Tracy Dennhardl. Luey Shultz. Michelle Keeshan. Sue Quandl, Angle Enevoldsen, Stacey Scheppers, Julie Bauer, Mindy Roby, Tracey Schade. Coach Schullz. A Promising Future Future Viking teams should have no trouble continuing with this year ' s success as the J.V. ' s went 13-1 losing only to Minden 28-29. The good habits the J.V. ' s developed and their great shooting percentage from the field should help them to improve in the future. Although the freshmen ' s 4-8 record wasn ' t a winning one they did improve in their ability to work together and in the fundamentals of basketball. Sets of lines and running were worth the victories. ■ Sue Quandt Scores Centura 62-29 Seward 36-32 Minden 54-31 Crete 38-30 St. Cecilia 60-43 Aurora 45-20 St. Paul 61-25 Central City 44-24 Adams Central 58-28 Holdrege 55-22 Schuyler 61-26 Central Catholic 50-29 Holiday Tour.
