the student body, a showplace for student's work, a point of interest for visitors, and a place to meet friends. A breezy mall can be a nice break for serious-minded Pioneers. Most students use it as a shortcut to beat the four rninute bell. Routines cset the pace, Each da for 1,868 As the morning of September 7th dawned the building was only a mass of concrete and steel, but with the school hour came the life blood of North- west . . . the students. Beginning a new day 1,868 Pioneers arrived by bus, car and foot, and as the clock struck eight, we hurried down the halls and up the stairs, eager to start. Banging lockers and searching for the right books, we greeted and chattered with old and new friends. NVe, in this move to our classes, began to set a pace which would carry on through, and after, our years at NHS. llfhen the final bell rang we left the now empty halls and settled down in our classrooms to receive the instruction and knowledge which 88 teachers offeredg knowledge which would help us develop into fine American citizens who would set the pace for the future as well as at NHS. A lot of manygtalents holds everything from future athletes to marching musicians as well as serving as a parking lot. -W' W 'mi 5

It serves as a crossroads for The four bus routes are an important link tor the 875 students who use them as a means ot transportation. Knowledge gained dail Aids Pioneer growth School is not all books and studying, but consists of an equally important insight, that of getting along with others. Pioneers practiced this Worldly knowledge every day while riding the buses to and from school and while lunching in the cafeteria. Such routine activities as purchasing paper in the bookstore, rushing to lockers between classes, greet- ing friends in the hall, and walking into a class- room brightened our day, and deepened this know- ledge. Ml:-s. Lewis, head librarian, helps people daily. Mr. Cummins, guidance director, is one of the l8OO people who use the library. A school locker is a good treasure chest for the pack rat Pioneer, joe Rich deives into his storehouse of supplies and needed junk. 6
