Sehoolis first seniors Complete final lap Northwest High School's first graduating class will consist of 369 students. The class is unique in the fact that they have, in effect, waited for two years to graduate. The present seniors were also the up- perclass men in their junior year since NHS had no senior class. For the first time, seniors elected class officers, assembled in one home room, and sat together in the cafeteria, where they were allowed to eat first every day. Talk of the senior prom, Sayonara, com- mencement, and vespers services seemed to fill the air as some seniors came down with that well-known disease Senioritis,'. Trading senior pictures took the place of note passing in many study halls as the newness of senior status took hold. The first senior year also afforded the chance for many first and pace setting traditions that will be a part of Northwest from now on. Class officers, class rings, commencement announcements, senior name cards, yearbooks, Dress-Up Day, Mock Elec- tions with seniors running for offices, and senior recognition at pep assemblies, all added to the herit- age of Northwest as its first graduating class antici- pated filing through its doors for the last time. Plans for the senior prom began on the first day of school. The prom was held at the I.U. Medical Center. Decoration and refreshment committees kept many seniors busy working after school for what seemed like an eternity before the prom. 82 Mr. Richard Cummins, head senior sponsor, and Ollie Matthews. president of the senior class informed students of up-coming events and senior committee meetings daily.
