Band concerts proof i practice, skill Northwest Concert Band had a busy season this year with two concerts and a contest. A Christmas concert, which included all mem- bers of the music department, was the Northwest band's first. concert appearance. On March 26th, the band gave a joint concert with the girls' vocal groups. Proceeds from this concert went into the band uniform fund. This year, Northwest was host school for the Annual State Band Contest, April 3. Klippel C, Marshel, Drum major directs Band at home games Marching Pioneers had a busy year in l964-65. The city-wide Jamboree, held in September, l964, was the beginning of the marching season for the band. Our band, along with other city bands enter- tained in the Jamboree with a halftime show spot- lighting state fairs. Marching Pioneers performed at all home foota ball games with shows demonstrating precision marching, dance routines, and varied types of music. Senior drum major Mike Basore led the marching Pioneers in their field maneuvers. He also led the band at the entertainment in the 4'Punt, Pass and Kick Contest and the State Marching Band Con- test at Southport in which the band won a first division rating. Pickett. l i ' ajorettes displa Talents With band Adding a spirited touch to Northwest home basketball games was the Pioneer pep band which was composed of twenty members of the regular concert band. These students played between game quarters and at the halftime. The pep band provided marching music for the Northwest Silverettes during their halftime shows.
