A student interested in honieniaking, foods, and clothing learn- ed how to increase her wardrobe by sewing and how to prepare a well-balanced rneal in food classes. Pioneers wishing to learn to drive learned this skill correctly and safely in one of the six driver's educa- tion classes. Physical education and family living served as a sound basis for health and living patterns which will be carried on throughout life. There were capable teachers for these courses, offered to forward-looking students at Northwest. Lettering classes at NHS prepare art students for commercial lettering and offers a good basic course for future art majors. 15

HS distinctions Produce special events Pacing the way for Northwest was not all work, but many times fun, for busy Pioneers. Special events dotted the NHS calendar in 135. These events ranged from pep sessions and dances to the musical production ot Brigadoon'l and a concert presented by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. In all cases, we tried to make these special events rousing successes. Friday night dances were a climax to all home basketball games. Each dance was sponsored by a school club or organization. Crowds of Pioneers gathered in the gym at several pep sessions. f rs'r' V V V .
