Mrs. Fay Rives Benton With the opening of Northwest four years ago, Mrs. Benton joined the faculty here, coming from the home economics department at Old Town. During these years, she has served the school and the student body, both individually and collectively, with a tireless and selfless devotion that has sought neither recognition nor reward. Every Friday during football season, the team has, for these four years, had its evening meal prepared and served under the supervision of the home economics department. Extra time after school to help a class, a club, or an individual prepare for a tea or a party is a service that students frequently request of Mrs. Benton and unfailingly receive. Plan a banquet, serve a dinner, select a color scheme, every day brings its quota of chores that lie without and beyond the bounds of obligation and duty. Mrs. Benton is quickly and quietly efficient in any emergency. Whoever loses a button than cannot be replaced by the ever-serviceable pin hurries to her for first aid. Both major and minor damagesto clothing and hearts are daily offered her to be repaired. She is never too busy for them and always manages to send the victim away with injuries no longer visible, even if the repair cannot be permanent. Because of all these things, and because she is herself gracious, kind, wise, and forever yoimg to understand the ways of youth, we offer her this work of our minds and hearts and hands in dedicating to her this edition of our yearbook. 8
