Hatfield. As our principal, he has unfailingly guided us through the arising perils in both strenuous and happy times. Often seen are the many characters of this warm, sincere, and deeply religious human being. His unceasing loyalty to North- west, its students, and its functions fills us with pride that we have such a man to govern us. He is an inspiration to each of us to strive to achieve the highest goals attainable. His presence in our school system is a privilege and an honor. We, therefore, proudly bestow our dedication upon this most deserving and dedi- cated man, NNUAL TAFF ANNUAL STAFF Ann Blaylock, Ann Price, Betty Henderson, Beverly Baltzelle, Becky Knox, Sammye Halbert, Mrs, Waldrep, sponsor Beverly McCrary, Linda Armstrong, Karen Crabb, Brenda Brown, Linda Williams. Mrs. Waldrep, scurrying from the coffee-room to the typing machines has had quite an influence over the Annual Staff this year. Pep rallies, always lively, were given that extra boost by Mr. Nance, the greatest Spanish teacher yet! Mrs. Whitman, another new teacher for NW, won her way into the hearts of many this year by her sin- cere friendliness and win- ning smile. Coach Ooten, during his second year here, was quite an inspiration to our basketball teams. Mr. Wood, with his Biology courses, has becomeawel- come sight in the East wing. Calories were counted in here, but not the same kind as those her husband was teaching about. Pictured here are: Charlene Pinson, Joan Hatfield, Melba Mat- thews, and Linda Hodges. I The SENIORS of '65, ' led by Johnny Wilson, did many things this year, fmentionable and other- wise !p They were busy always . . .around semester- test time. At other times, they calmly discussed spare-time activities, studies, plays CYEA Annie Oaldeyp, locker-changes, how to get along with others, and the correct distance ofseparationwhen walking down the hall. The rest of the time was filled with candy-making, car-washes, locker- checks, term-themes, picture bills, ring bills Cone or two rimesup, and a few other goodies, not to exclude the New Orleans jaunt. There are many memories which this year's Seniors will take with them . . . some good and a few bad, but mainly ones which will make GREAT building blocks for the rest of their lives . . .so, here goes H! mm 5 -A mlglgggi Seniors . . .and sports I Hey Susan! ls that a I ,M 6 1 new exercise'?. . . The F,F,A, and F,H,A, had their annual Christmas Banquet, the Jrs. and Srs. put on a play for the Elementary students, everyone exercised, there were football games, Christmas door decoration contests, and as always there were those who rode the Coke-cart. Pep rallies were started each Friday by the Band marching through the halls, the Christmas band concert, lunchroom strikes and many extra- curricular activities. ,gear-i , fa- We-1-. fi me as 'lag 'M xml wav ' 'fx t', I thltmax. JllS'lZiI1 Texas Ben Kemp's Conoco Corner of Hwy. 114 and Oak Street Roanoke Texas 1 ' 5 M l EXCERPT FROM A LETTER OF APRIL 17, 1962 lt is my earnest hope, as indeed it should be the earnest hope of all freedom loving peoples, that the students who pass through the portals of this new Academy of Freedom will do so in the determined and relentless search for the means to shore up, fortify and revitalize that cherished heritage which they hold. DOUGLAS lVlacARTHUR For more than ZOO years, Texas and Texans have been identified with thought and action directed toward the preservation of man's personal freedoms. ln keeping with this tradition, the Douglas MacArthur Academy of Freedom was established at Howard Payne College in Brownwood in the Spring of 1962. The purpose of the Academy of Freedom is to prepare young people to understand the world in which they live . . . to instruct them in historical backgrounds . . .to give them an understanding of the governments of the various nations . . .to teach them the social and geographical en- vironments of the peoples of the world . . . and to develop within them an appreciation of the American Heritage. Texas Power 84 Light Company salutes the officials, staff and students of the Academy of Freedom and the purposes to which they are dedicated. For additional information about the Academy, write to: Registrar, Howard Payne College, Brownwood, Texas. sm TEXAS POWER 8z, LIGHT COMPANY a tax-paying, investor-owned electric utility Knox Brothers Motor Co.
