2 Another school year has become history. The 26th volume of the Northwest High School Chieftain is the history which belongs to all of us. It is the student’s story, and this is the student's book. For some of us there will be other school years and other stories. For the seniors, it is the re- cord of our last time together at Northwest High. For all of us, as we turn the pages, we will see what we will never see again. 6 Northwest High School is located on the banks of the beautiful and historic Ohio Canal. Dur- ing the past year its classrooms have been full and its hallways crowded. A typical day began with the ringing of the 7:30 bell. 10 14 ATHLETICS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM The 1978 Cross Country Team con- sisted of many strong runners. They were coached by Mr. Armstrong. Julian is from Colombia and will be living in Canal Fulton until August. In Colombia, Julian is a freshman in college and he is studying system engineering. He attends the Universidad Pilotc dc Columbia. In this Latin American nation. Julian is very active all through the year. He plays tennis and is the State Champion there. Julian also enjoys mountain climbing and photography. When Julian first came to the U.S. he was a'littlc surprised. Julian said, “The people are friendlier than I thought they would be”. Julian enjoys going to Northwest High and would like to plan on going to college here in Ohio. Julian is active in extracurricular activities at the school. He takes pictures for the Smoke Signals newspaper and is in the ski club. Julian has put forth effort in trying to help the school in any way he can. He helps the teachers by doing what is asked of him. Julian understands things pretty well now and tries to help when he cafl.
