Class of 1965 Presents THE CHIEFTAIN FOREWORD Northwest High, our love will never end, And your name we surely will defend. You have seen so many tears, But you’ve led us through the years. When our troubles block our every way, We will proudly lift our heads and say Our Alma Mater Northwest High We'll love you till we die. As memory wanders back over our four years of high school life, we faintly recall the bewilderment of those freshman days, our false conceptions as sophomores and more vividly our sophistication as juniors. With departure becoming a reality, we nonchalant seniors look back on our high school career visualizing with pangs of regret those lost opportunities. So now, Northwest we take our leave assuring you that we will always look to you as a valuable part of our lives and an inspiration for the future. 2 THE CLASS OF ’65 . . DEDICATION. MR. STEVE LUTHER We the graduating Seniors of Northwest High School wish to dedicate this, the 1965 Chieftan, to a man who has given our class inspiration, devotion, and invaluable assistance in attaining our goal toward becoming worthwhile and respectable adults. In the past years he has not only devoted his time and energy but has also been a friend as well as a teacher to all the students. 3 THE 1965 CHIEFTAIN STAFF JAMES EDWARD SHONDEL--Editor Paul Staver--Junior Editor Denny Staver--Business Manager Eugene Neal--Junior Business Manager Christine Geiser Howard Duma Janice Beaber Becky Boyle Lee Palmer Sandy Boyd Lynn Penchalk Linda Campbell Susie Boyd Carol Lane Annette Seifert Elaine Duma Richard Stanley Keith Boyd Larry Nettle Denny Harsh Mr. Harold Pitz--Advisor 4 pcTiormav r Jur- ffies dj tica ■ a i ‘v X Ac I bc lie term during vhicl¥J H . Even though they're usually a thin slice of a company's or a store’s total income. Most high school seniors think profits are about 50% of sales after taxes are paid! Actually, a pizza shop owner who, on a busy night, sells $100 worth of pizzas is lucky if he winds up with $4 or $5 profit. And that profit doesn't all stay in the owner’s pocket. He has to set aside some of it for new equip- ment and perhaps a bigger shop someday. Profits pay for expan- sion in any business. Profits cre- ate new jobs. Every record company gambles on each new release. Duds far outnumber the hits. A company’s stockholders receive only about 3% of the money you plunk down for a new record. And manufacturers of tapered roller bearings, steel and rock bits, for in- stance, work hard and plan carefully ahead to earn a small percentage of profit. Then that profit must be divided up again—for new ma- chines, new plants, new research and to pay back the stockholders who have invested their savings in a company's future. When you think about profits, remember that even the thinnest slices have to go a long way. The Timken Roller Bearing Com- pany, Canton, Ohio.
