You may call them Mr and Mrs Senror of the Class of 1957 graduates of Northwest Hrgh School What are they domg? Why retracrng therr hrgh school days together what else' The woman Mrs Semor rs holdrng a book rn her hand as Mr Semor gazes rntently mto the frre He speaks rn husky tones I remember so well our freshman year at Clmton We were all so new at thrs game of hrgh school I remember how excrted we were when the sophomores junrors and senrors consolrdated wrth Canal Fulton Hrgh School leavrng us to be the oldest class at Clrnton Mr Meecham became our class sponsor and we elected Margre Wilhelm Brll Stinson Nancy Paul and Helen Reece as our offrcers Our class was qurre actrve that year Usrng the money we earned rn our freshman year we chartered a Greyhound bus and went to Columbus Ohro on our class trrp I dont thrnk any students could have enjoyed therr freshman year as much as we managed to do Now dear thats just your opmron I remember my own begmmng of hrgh school vrvrdly We freshmen from Canal Fulton were drfferent rn one respect Whereas you were the oldest class remarnrng at Cllnton we were the youngest class at the new Northwest Hrgh School located rn Canal Fulton We began our year rn the Fulton Hrgh School gym desrgnated as our homeroom and elected Tom Culp Sherry Grlcher Marrlyn Paulr and Roy Ray as our offxcers Mr Rannrgan and Mr Prokop became our sponsors Those nrne months really flew' Do you remember when we celebrated the conclusxon of our freshman year rn a get acquarnted prcnrc at Clays Park? Do you recall the srgnrfrcance of our sophomore year? In the fall of 1954 the two former freshman classes combrned to form one sophomore class at Northwest Hxgh School Because of the crowded condmons rn the Fulton Hrgh School burldmg we had to be drvrded alphabetxcally rnto two homerooms Mr Prata became our sponsor We chose Marte LeBerth Tom Culp Sherry Grlcher and Marg1e Wrlhelm to offrcate at our class meenngs Remember when we chose our class jackets and r1ngs9 When our jackets arrtved we felt that we had really become a part of Northwest Hugh We really wore them everywhere? Remember the Beggars Ball our frrsr class sponsored dance? senror years offered the most challenge? I thrnk the class grew under rts new responsrbrlrty and each one of us trred to do hrs part to make our class a success I certarnly do agree' Our yunror year was truly the bustest so full of money makrng schemes After all rt was a matter of do or due ' We had a prom that year to plan and we certaxnly drdn t srt around twrddlmg our thumbs about rt We worked Under the able sponsorshrp of Mrs Lawrence wxthout whom we couldnt have succeeded we accumulated money through bake sales class dues sales of megaphones holdmg the football and basketball concessxons sales of ball pornt pens sponsormg our january srxth dance presentatxon of our yunror play and a scrap and paper drrve Our efforts were certarnly rewarded rn the success of our prom We held our prom at the Onesto Hotel rn Canton Ohro on May frfth Our theme was Memorres Are Made of Thrs rn a color scheme of blue and srlver Our banquet began at srx rn the Onesto ballroom and everyone looked perfectly chrc rn hrs new fmery Do you recall Barb s and jack s speeches And remember the professronal dancers from the Arthur Murray Sl'l1dlO7 Ill never forget that all at once durrng the dancmg a mass of floatrng balloons descended on us and the commotron whrch followed Leavrng the Onesto we became a part of the tram of cars drrvlng to the Lrncoln Theater rn Massrllon where we saw that movre The Conqueror starrrng John Wayne and Susan Hayward We concluded our mght of nrghts wrth a breakfast at Northwest Hrgh School Who were our offrcers that year?
