Nestled In The Mountain Foothills Bold Against The Sky Proudly Stands Our Alma Mater Northwest Georgia High It pays to let a friend drive Celebrate Good Times 6 2 In the year 81 -82. we celebrated lots of things like victories and defeats. Izods and Foxes. Rubiks Cubes. Work and Play, ups and downs, and permis- sion slips running out of our ears. This year held many good times with new students, new activities, and even though work was involved, the year flew by. The 81-82 school year was a year for remembering and as you look through the memories of this aca- demic year and see the reflection of you as it was when you were celebrat- ing the good times in your school years, remember that these are the times of your life. 3 Our years at Northwest Georgia High brought forth friendships and bonds that will remain in our hearts forever. Though we may all go our separate ways in the future, the imprints of those ties with our school years will always be with us in our souls. 7 Homecoming has always been a night of gala events and the Homecoming of 1981-1982 was no different. The parade was as beautiful as ever and the crowning of the queen was suspenseful and exciting. This year’s queen was Monica Rake. She is shown to the right being crowned by principal. Jerry Bryan. The Homecoming Court consisted of Freshman Representative. Sherry Al- sobrook; Sophomore Representative. Trade McBryan Ju- nior Representative. Debbie Gass; and Senior Represen- tatives. Kathy Barton. Kim Barton. Presta Forester. Moni- ca Rake, and Karla Raines. The Court and their parents enjoyed a Homecoming Dance after the game in their honor. Homecoming 1981 8 11 Lord. It's Killing Me” 12 r From The Principal’s Pen At the beginning of the year we asked you to accept the challenge and make this year one of the most outstanding years of your life. I am pleased to see that some of you accepted the challenge. The students in the marching band, swing band, and concert band had a very outstanding year, one they will remem- ber the rest of their lives. The girl's basketball team, the baseball team, several wrestlers, and track people have made an admira- ble showing this year. In the academic areas many of you have accepted the challenge by making star roll , honor graduates, and by winning state and local honors in literary events, history day. scholars bowl, and library club. I think the History of Dade” was a great achievement in this area. Others of you have made outstanding achievements that you feel are just as impor- tant as the ones mentioned above and for these I commend you. I further challenge you not to stop here, but let your efforts be rekindled and go forth in life with purpose and not be satisfied until you have fulfilled your goals. For those of you who have not yet accepted the challenge, don't wait too late in life to become more involved. Jerry E. Bryan. Principal. Administration Ralph Faulkner. Vice-Principal B.S. The old saying, It’s better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all” is made into a distinct reality. Through the Project Adventure curriculum. Group Initiative Problems, such as the Nitro-crossing. The Wall.” and the Electric Fence help build mutual support within a group. All of the exercises which entail the use of balance and agility help develop the students level of physical coordination. Almost all the activities help increase the students sense of self-confidence. Activities such as the Tangle”. 4-pointer. Hog call” and all the trust activities help develop an increased joy in one’s physical self, and in being with others. A lot of the Project Adventure unit is taught on the Ropes Course and in the outdoors to provide students with different experiences and help develop an increased familiarity and identification with the natural world. In many ways the course and the risks involved are uncompromising for students the experience is both stressful and joyous. Ideally as they dare to try they being to experience physical success and recognize that the seemingly difficult is often quite possible. Their struggles are often the beginnings of maturity which we believe entails, in part, having real experience with a wide range of natural human reactions — fear. joy. fatigue, compassion, laughter, pain and love. Editor of the Sentinel who have provided us with much-needed photographs and negatives and. without these, we feel that the Wol- verine might not have been possible. We sincerely ap- preciate their cooperation and kindness. The Wolver- ine Staff. Carolyn York For all your years of dedicated ser- vice to the Northwest Georgia Music program a plaque and mention in the annual seems obsolete. All your hard work and determination when you gave everything and expected nothing seem ill-rewarded. We at Northwest Georgia appreciate your kindness and offer our sincere thanks. Mr. Bryan. We want to thank you for your patience, understanding, time, and co-operation as we have strived to put together a yearbook that will hold as many memories as can be packed into its cover. We feel that, with your help, we have overcome inadequate conditions and have made this book the best that we can make it. Thank you most of all for showing each stu- dent how much you care for his her well-being. 137 San. Through all the hardwork and de- pressing times you always pulled us through. If there was ever someone I could depend on it was you. Re- gardless of the weeks of summer vacation it took to finish this book and all the problems we faced you never complained. Long after every one else had given up you stayed to see it through. Even when things got tough and it seemed no one was on our side your hard work and de- termination to make this a success always brought me up. If there was anything I gained from this exper- ience it was how to handle a tough responsibility and a great friend Nena. I can’t believe it! We’re through! Finished! It's been a long road but I believe our efforts were worth while. You have done so much and you have worked at times when I haven't been able to. I appreciate that, and the fact that you never gave up on it. When I got tired of the complaints, the financial situation, and the whole thing in general, you reminded me that there are some students who would KILL me if we gave up com- pletely. I’m glad we were in this mess together: It gave us time to talk but Nena the thing I appreci- ate about you most is your friendship. Thanks again.
