Text from Pages 1 - 184 of the 1978 volume:

AS Northwest Georgia entered her third year, we found our school putting down roots. We had selected from our previous schools those activities and practices that had given us identity and pur- pose. From them we were establishing a new tradi- tion. TIME was to be captured and held. Our year was too precious to be squandered. But there had to be lazy do-nothing days as well as days of frantic acti- vity. ,5 50$ KISSES 504 i WE savored the delights of anticipation. Could our year .. . would our year ever deliver the dreams we had ascribed to it? We had waited so long and now we expected so much. 6 8 LAUGHTER filled our days ... no failed exam, no flat tire, no broken romance could long dim our laughter. Somehow, it made life easier ... some- how, we survived. 9 WE always had somewhere to be, something to do, someone to enjoy. We felt time would stretch to accomodate all our desires. We made time our slave rather than our master just for one short year. n 9 M i u : u OUR year in sports was outstanding. For a few of us it would be our last year as an active participant. Perhaps it was this sense of the impermanance of things that spurred us on to a little more effort than we had given in earlier years. 13 14 Excused Unexcused Dress Code Tardy Pass Career Edu- cation “We go all day all year?!” Finals In School Suspension No Smoking Grades Hall Pass Class Rank Pre-Registration “Here” Faculty Meet- ings School Van Neckties Sign-Out Sheets mgs ocnooi van rNccxiies oign-wui oneeis Room School Calender Certification Individ- Lunch Lines VaJ ualized Instruction Objectives Dedi- Study Hall “That VrA cation Bus Duty Grade Sheets machine took my Ix’jL V VV Seasonal Work WDOD • -M m___i. A great many people equate success with money. Success is a strange, unpredictable part of life for it can suddenly, loosen its clutch and begin a spiraling path downards. Success can be fickle and cruel, and can destroy the dreams and fantasies of young men and women. As you continue your search for success, keep this in mind — To laugh often and love much; To win the respect of intelligent person and the affection of children; To earn the approval of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To find the best in others; To give of one’s self without the slightest thought of return; To have accomplished a task, whether by a healthy child, a rescued soul, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; To have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; To know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived; This is to have succeeded. Even though the coaches faced injuries to key players, they managed to realign and adjust. Head Coach Frank Starkey ably assisted by Coach Dirt Brown and Coach Steve Lea again delivered an exciting sea- son. There was a pride about this team that united both its mem- bers and its loyal fans. Our foot- ball program here at Northwest remains a credit to our school and to our community. Student Council The Northwest Georgia Student Council had its usual productive year. The members produced the Miss Springtime Pageant, bought awards for Awards Day, and entertained the student body with the Gong Show and the Male Beauty Contest. A group of members attended the state convention at Rock Eagle and made plans there for next year. This active organization continually works for the betterment of Northwest Georgia student-faculty- community relations. 101 Senior The Beta Club encourages leadership, honesty, and scholarship. Our 1978 service project was a drive to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The club sponsored a karate demonstration for student interest, and later on, held the annual variety show to display the different talents within the student body. The Beta Club takes charge of the Honor and Star Rolls in recognition of outstanding students. We feel it has been an eventful year, and we hope to be of future service to our school, our community, our state, and our nation. First Row: Renac Wooten. Annice Goodwin. Tammy Bracken. Kim Raymond. FBLA week February 13-17 was spent with members presenting information to fellow students concerning FBLA. A tea was given to honor local business leaders. They proved their dedication to the community with visits to the Nursing Home and their very resourceful Toys for Tots Drive. Top: Pam Norton, Mary Lawson The 1978 Yearbook Staff had a year of hard work but a year of fun as well. Some of the members started the year early with a yearbook seminar held last summer at Tennessee Tech in Cooke- ville. We made plans there for the best book we could possibly produce. There were deadlines to be met, photographs to be sched- uled, and endless layouts to be created. We hope you en- joy the result. 145 Dedication The 1978 Wolverine is dedicated to our teacher and friend, David Brown. To his students and to his athletes here at North- west Georgia, Coach Brown symbolizes all those characteris- tics he values so highly ... being true to one’s self and to others, striving for the best in every endeavor, and, above all, a fine sense of the power of laughter. Coach Brown expects our best effort in all that we do both in the classroom and on the field, however, he is always involved with us always working beside us, delivering his own best effort and demanding as much of himself as he demands of us. He is professional in everything that he does. We respect him be- cause he respects us. Coach Brown has never confused taking life seriously with taking himself seriously. He has a fine eye for the ridiculous and the ability to reduce most of life’s problems to their proper perspective. He helps us when we need help, and we love him because he loves us.
