Student Council orientation committees met, Shield staff reporters gathered news for a traditional first-day paper, and Knights and Ladies welcomed the new AFS student. One of the year's biggest news stories was the crowning of OCU's Jane Jayroe as Miss America. School scribes interviewed her for the Times.
